I just check the old site and its like it used to be. Did we win the battle?
Doesn't look the same to me. There's ads everywhere, and it's busy. The old DML (before Jeff sold out) was pretty cleanly laid out.
It's the VS 'new' look still. Maybe you saw a cached version. Sad but true the old DML as we knew is it not coming back.
Battle? There's really no battle unfortunately. VS owns it and can do what they want
dude...it's the VS site
you're seeing things....
;D
are you sure you weren't actually coming here? lol
I managed to log into the dml site, and the only thing different i noticed from yesterday is the absence of the Auto-Ad posted after the first post on a topic. I guess it only appears for non-members.
I was just over there looking for some old email addresses and it seems they've decided to make me a "Premium" member. It seems to have turned off the ads that were springing up all over the place. (Sorry VS...too little , too late for this guy) ::)

I think they did that for the old titanium members, but I could be wrong.
Nope. I was just an old " el cheapo" member. ;D
Same thing happened to me - I had just the plain-Jane membership over there. I posted a farewell to the DML. It got deleted. I posted a message asking them to delete my membership. Ads disappeared. Turns out, delete is Canadian for upgrade.
There was a another post over there about the pre-VS board having 20k members, which got me to wondering if their ad revenue is based on the amount registered users.
I actually saw the same thing at one stage - board reverted to the 'old' look. Had me wondering...
At least I am a Premium member somewhere ;D

A regular membership here is worth way more than a premium membership on TOB.

i never understood the disbelief that there were that many users registered at TOB.

And maybe too short.
I'm sure I remember seeing over there that all registered members now get ***FREE*** premium membership ... for a time. Think it was a month, could have been more.
After that, presumably, it's a matter of paying a premium ... or else you're back on the outer.

I think the disbelief was in who was registering the 16 per day. The 16 per day that never logged in or posted ever again.

bots...
No biggie, I'm sure the traffic is measured in unique IP hits and such. Any smart business would see through fake members.
it still looks like poop. and this is such a better place anyways. I only go back every now and then to laugh for a while at the tardedness of it

Yes, there were only about 3000 members with more than a couple of posts. I forget the exact breakdown -- but looking at the stats, there was a definite "knee" in the data layout. Lots and lots of people with one post and then sharply diminished past 10 or so.
I always thought it a tad slimy when the stats only substantiated a quotable number between 3 and 5k.
:)

TOB has never really changed in appearance for me. That may be because I use Firefox with Adblock Plus.
I just popped in for a look and it does look a little bit better than it was. As to the Premium Membership, they gave everyone that was there before the change Premium Membership so you can turn off adds but you'll lose the Premium Membership after a month. And for all the Titanium Members you get Premium Membership for a year. So much for that lifetime titanium. [roll]
