I had the same thing on my SV between 5 and 6. Anyone else get this occasionally? The SV was fixed by changing the shift star and shifter to an updated 06+.
I'll hit one occasionally in the same place on my '09 M1100. I have always attributed it to lazy shifting. I can go months without doing it then hit a couple in the same week.

Hmmmm. Ok. I may try the upgraded shift arm and spring that CA Cycleworks has. If i do, i will report back. It's $100 but for me, it made a huge difference in my SV.
Same here. Lazy shift on st2 or 696 can find a false neutral
Had similar issues with my M796 recently.
Lowered the lever a bit and flicked it a little harder and so far no more issues.

I guess you noticed that the Ca Cycleworks kit for your bike consists of the arm and spring, whereas the SV kits included a re-profiled star.
No doubt, the increased spring tension will be noticed. But with retaining the stock star, you might not notice the same degree of improvement that you did with the SV.
Yeah, i noticed that. Still thinking a new spring and wheel would do good. The star improved the notchiness of the SV. The early shifters were TERRIBLE compared to the later revised units.
Broke down and ordered the kit along with the cover gasket today. Bike is apart for vavles. Might as well do it now.
I don't think you'll regret it. I did it on both my bikes to good effect. Factory Pro even uses my bike on their website.
It's not so much the spring tension, but the smoother bearing that allows improved gear selection. I don't have the newer ceramic bearing option in either bike.

I opted for the standard bearing. I didn't want to fork over the extra $30... I'm cheap. And own a Ducati. ;)
Definite must do if you are having shifter issues. So much nicer! Very happy with the results.

I' ve noticed that since my moto turned a year, and went over 9k mi, it started happening. Sometimes between 4 and 5, but usually between 5 and 6. Couldn't figure out if it was my gearbox ripping apart from my crappy shifting, or if i was just getting lazy shifting. I started focusing on gently popping it in instead of kicking out in and it seems to be better. I'm interested in any mechanical solutions that may be out there, besides a big factory replacement bill.

Factory Pro part has ceramic bearings but costs $140 Spring, Star, and modified detent lever. I have also had problems with false neutrals maybe I will give it a go.
