Title: carb pilot jets issue ???
Post by: jerryz on June 29, 2015, 11:11:27 AM
my carby 750 monster with standard mikunis has a nice throttle response ,at tickover , slow and fast revs , OK OK its not as good as a bike with FCRs but its ok ,,

BUT my 1991 750ss is just not  nice at low revs ? smooth as silk above 3000 rpm but grumpy below and at tick over ,,,the carbs are in good nick and clean , but methinks more can be done of course the monster is a 2000 bike and the 750ss is 10 year older and the carbs are slightly different eg: no  heater circuit

cant afford the obvious move ... a set of 39mm FCRs , wish wish ,,,, as im still unable to find work , so plenty of time to fiddle

ONE CONFUSION is the pilot/slow  jets >>>>which affect tickover and slow running and pickup

Haynes book says 750ss should have .1375 pilots
Ducati 750ss 1991 manual says .140 pilots
and Ducati parts list for my year 750ss us .1425

hmm so now i dont know what is correct , the bike has middle size .140 but these carbs look almost new they are clean and shiny and every thing is in excellent condition they may be off a later bike but all the other jets and neddles are correct for the bike ??

any ideas welcome

Any more specific info on the symptoms of how she runs? Plug colours? Better or worse when warmed up? Runs different in hot or cold weather? Have the carbs idle mixtures and synch been set?
I'm guessing the part numbers are for pilot jet sizes of 37.5, 40 and 42.5.
Worth having a look in there to see what you have and servicing them.
