Title: Another fuel pump question Post by: ducpainter on July 03, 2015, 10:47:02 AM It seems that my fuel pump on the Monster is not pumping. I know there have been several threads regarding replacing the vacuum pump with an electric one, but after researching further you really need to pipe in a return which isn't the easiest thing to do on a Monster tank.
I 'could' take mine apart and look it over... :-\ There have been some reports that the pump Ca-Cycleworks sells 'might' be inadequate volume wise for track use as it only puts out about 14l/hour. The vet found me this one... http://www.dellorto.it/fuel-pumps-3 (http://www.dellorto.it/fuel-pumps-3) ...but we're basically flying blind as to whether it would work. You can also ggogle Dellorto P34 pump and translate if the link doesn't work. Very low pressure, internal pressure regulation, high volume, and rebuildable. It is dual outlet, but that doesn't scare me. It is also about a quarter the price of a stock pump. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts? Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: Speeddog on July 03, 2015, 12:15:29 PM I've rebuilt several of the OEM pumps with the official kit from Sudco, and had no issues.
That Dellorto pump looks interesting. It says nominal flow of 55 liter/hr, which is plenty. 100HP on a 4-stroke engine is ~8 gallons/hr. I'm concerned that they show 125-300cc engines as the application, though. It *looks* a bit small to me, in the pic. But the internals could be a good bit different from the Mikuni, so that's not worth much. Try it and let us know. ;D Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: ducpainter on July 03, 2015, 12:35:36 PM Could be, Google Translate comes up a bit short on clarity sometimes. Eric's Dellorto rep suggested it.It *looks* a bit small to me, in the pic. But the internals could be a good bit different from the Mikuni, so that's not worth much. Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: Speeddog on July 03, 2015, 01:56:49 PM Sudco says the 'pentagon' pump is 65 liters/hr.
Without knowing the test conditions, not much help. http://www.sudco.com/Catalog37Digital/index.html#/222 (http://www.sudco.com/Catalog37Digital/index.html#/222) Purportedly $23 for the rebuild kit, and $69 for a pentagon pump. That's from their online price list sheet which says it's 2012, so YMMV. Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: koko64 on July 03, 2015, 08:54:21 PM Id chuck in the rebuild kit. You know it will work.
Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: Howie on July 03, 2015, 09:11:29 PM Id chuck in the rebuild kit. You know it will work. Yup. Plug &play. Price for new ain't bad either. Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: ducpainter on July 05, 2015, 03:30:49 AM I'll probably take the Mikuni apart and see what's going on inside.
The check valves might just be stuck from sitting so long. Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: koko64 on July 05, 2015, 03:26:24 PM Interested what its like inside after all that time.
My pump was surprisingly not too bad. Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: koko64 on July 10, 2015, 04:19:34 PM What was the outcome?
It work after a good clean? Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: ducpainter on July 11, 2015, 05:34:11 AM It's on the list. ;)
Title: Re: Another fuel pump question Post by: silas on July 13, 2015, 04:12:58 AM The rectangular Mikuni fuel pump Chris sells works great w/ my FCR 41's on 98 M900. Had it 2-3 yrs now, no issues. It has one outlet as needed. I paired it w/ a Pingel manual shut off valve on the right side of the frame & ditched the vacuum fuel tap. https://ca-cycleworks.com/products/fuel-carbs/fuel-pumps/002-220 |
