Title: Throttle response
Post by: 1.21GW on July 07, 2015, 11:58:39 AM
I've noticed that initial engine braking when I roll off the throttle is getting heavier, while pickup when I roll on the throttle is a little slow.  In response I tried more and more to have a silky smooth roll on/off of the throttle, but to no avail.  I really thing there is something causing delay in response.

This has been something I grown more and more aware of, and existed before I replaced the front brake pads (thus ruling out that the brake lines maybe were squeezing the rotor a bit more than is natural).  Anyway, the delay in throttle pickup is slight and not a major problem, but the heavier engine braking at roll off is kinda annoying as it makes for jerky riding.

What could cause a decline in throttle response?  Thoughts on what to check?

Maybe.  I googled how to check this and I think it will require me taking it in.  Not something I want to get into in my garage.  So that means it will have to hold off until fall at least, as there are more pressing moto demands on my wallet.  Ugh.

How recently were the valve clearances done, and to what numbers?

Yes.  It's not a major problem, just something I've noticed is growing in effect.  Bike runs fine otherwise.

Last year by a reputable duc shop (@ about 16k miles; bike is current 17.5k).  All valves were fine except one that needed a slight adjustment.  I don't recall how much adjustment, though.

If ECS did your valves they were done to the older tighter specs.

How is the throttle cable?

They did.  What does that ultimately mean: older/tighter vs newer?

Throttle cable was replaced two years ago, so should be fine in theory.  But I will inspect it again some night this week to make sure.

Ducati loosened up the tolerances to reduce maintenance costs. They didn't change the minimum, but relaxed the maximum.

The Ducs run much better closer to the minimum.
