Title: Anyone familiar with these wet clutch aquarium mod guys
Post by: The ModFather on July 07, 2015, 06:00:47 PM
Looks like these guys are offering to mod your clutch cover to give you the Dukabike style clutch cover at about half the cost. Curious if anyone has any experience with them or thoughts on their process.

For $375? On a wet clutch that's drowned in oil? I'll keep my solid one.

There was a guy in Portland doing essentially the same thing.

its cool, but it gets milky pretty quick.  the difference between this and the Ducabike is that Ducabike is making a new cover from a single chunk of billet, these guys just cut up a stock one.

I don't care enough to do it myself (rather drop the money on something ill feel), but I might change my mind if I dropped the cash for a sweet slipper clutch.

DucaBike is also Billet Aluminum. Lighter but Id worry about the color turning over time depending on the quality.

xcaptainxbloodx said that the DucaBike cover is billet.

Where did you get your info that it is lighter? I weighed both and the Ducabike cover is 515 grams heavier. That is a bit over a pound.

As for the color turning over time, most anodized parts will eventually do that. Some are worse than others. And, even with the brands which do relatively better, there can be variations depending on the individual part and the operating environment. Very easy to see that at trade shows when a vendor will have their complete line on display.

The modified cover is a nice effort, but the cork seal and the AL grade would be a turn off for me.

Thanks for the update. I was under the assumption it would be lighter. I've pretty much made up my mind to go with a 848 Dry Slipper Clutch Conversion Kit.

I have some input since I have the Ducabike Cover.....

-It only gets milky in cold weather before the oil heats up, its condensation, and yes it goes away when the oil gets hot. On mornings where its warm, the condensation never even appears.

-The clutch is not "drowned" in oil, more like oil from inside the clutch flings out and quickly goes to the sump.

-Yes it is worth it weather you get the one off eBay your looking at or the Ducabike unit. It looks bad ass and its another way to stand out from the crowd.

-The main advantage with the Ducabike unit is when its clutch pack time, its 5 bolts and the clear cover comes off, forget about pulling the side case.

Ease of maintenance is a big plus. Shame how it weighs more by half a kilo.
Ducati dry clutch is the easiest I have worked on of any make or model bike.
