Title: 2009 M696 external battery lead
Post by: alibaba on July 17, 2015, 01:16:21 PM
For those of you who are not aware, several manufactures a make a neat jump starter for cars and bikes.  Very small pocket size said can start diesel trucks over and over.  So,  no more getting stranded with a dead battery.  I love mine.  Has builtin bright LED light also.

Now, getting to my battery is not something I want to do out of the shop.  Ergo, I am installing a hot lead pig tail.  What wire size must I use to handle the starting amperage?

My little battery tender lead is only 16 ga and will surely fry up.

I've started different mc's with zip cord with alligator clips.  16
or 18 ga. Very carefully.  I wouldn't do it without monitoring.

Battery tender & others provide a pig tail that is probably 16 ga.

Mine came standard with a pigtail already on the left side frame.

The wire that leads into my tank bag for my heated glove liners plugs into it. Follow the wire down in the photo. Yours may have it already. Has a standard SAE connector.
