Over the last few years  I’ve done a fair amount of work on this old building that we have our Store in.

At one point back in 92’ or so there was a fire in the building that caused quite bit of charring. It was from a gas leak supplying a pizza oven. The back room and the room just forward of it took the brunt of the damage but the whole place was a disaster. After the fire it went up for sale and my parents bought the building for a “fire sale price” it was under $15k if I remember right. Over the years I have had the pleasure of working on it whether I wanted to or not.

Now, a kitchen for the store.

About 5 years ago, Joy & I bought the property from my Dad. Seems like there has been one project after another.

Recently I turned the old store room that was way in the back of the building into a bedroom for my stepson. He visits here for about 6 months of the year or so then goes back to San Francisco for a spell.

The back room had some old nasty home made shelves on each side of the room. I ripped those out and hauled them away in that trailer right outside the french doors. I started the project by cutting a hole in the wall and installing those doors. They let a lot of light in to an otherwise dark space.  The space had become the junk room. A catch all area. So we had to get rid of stuff that wasn’t being used.

After most of the junk was out I pulled up some plywood that was slapped over the original floor and found all this dry rot.

I removed all this stuff and put in some new pressure treated floor joists and in one area I filled with concrete. I put down new subfloor in the affected area and turned my attention to the ceiling. The ceiling had been burned of course and some 2x8 cross braces had been put in back in 92 to support the roof because the original 2x4’s had been compromised.

The the cross braces did the trick but they weren’t level. So I put in a drop ceiling, ran some wiring, and insulated it.

Then I started with the Sheet Rock.

It took a while but I eventually ended up with this.

There is still a little more work to do like adding that second light and doing some trim but it’s mostly done. We picked bright colors to lighten the room and I used Laminate for the floor.

Great job, but with the colors you chose for that room, I can't help but think that the Joker lives there!

Between you and me. I think the Joker just might live there.  ;)
