Title: Able to wiggle rear sprocket
Post by: JohnEE on August 09, 2015, 06:06:24 AM
I'm able to wiggle the rear sprocket a little bit on my S2R. Normal? I haven't taken that assembly apart yet. Been on there for around 6k miles. Noticed it when i was waxing the chain. Sprockets and chain look good.

Not normal . . . We just recently replaced the whole carrier/sprocket assy on a customer's 848 . . . he went aftermarket . . .

There is an amount of give in the rear sprocket that is normal. It shouldn't feel like it rattling around, but the cush drives are rubber and it does have some flex to it.

It may be worth taking a look at the left hand axle nut that holds the sprocket carrier on to see that hasn't backed off a little. When you wiggle the sprocket does the sprocket carrier move with it?
Also the centres of the cush drive rubbers can tear loose which would make the sprocket less secure.

I'll have to pull it apart tonight and check out the cush drives and re torque everything down. Will report back.
