Title: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: CookieMonster on August 12, 2015, 12:42:15 PM Well as we all know all bikes have some type of helmet lock to the bike and for as long as I have owned/ridden a bike I have never left my helmet behind. But for the most part they seem to be fairly secure. My R1 helmet lock was under the passenger seat. Now that I own a beautiful naked Monster I noticed that the helmet lock is provided by a metal stick and a tether that connect the two under the passenger seat.
HOWEVER, when I was working on upgrading my taillight I noticed that you can remove the seat without the key and very easily I might add. You can gain access with a pen if one wanted to. Has anyone found a way to block access to this, specially those who have expensive custom seats/cowls? Do you take your bucket with you or leave it behind? Didnt trust the locking mechanism on my Monster. (http://images1.revzilla.com/product_images/0056/1753/helmet_lok_ii_helmet_lock_black_zoom.jpg) Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: CookieMonster on August 12, 2015, 12:52:39 PM Ok that takes care of that. However, Corbin seats and carbon fiber seat cowls aren't cheap. How do you prevent someone walking away with your seat if they know about that access point?

I mean if someone wants my seat they'll take it no matter what.....But I've never experienced someone trying to steal that before. Plus it might look kinda off someone taking a seat off a bike. If I'm that weary about someone taking my bike, usually I park it on a sidewalk or use a disc lock. That way any rocking of hte bike at all and that thing goes off. Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: NAKID on August 12, 2015, 01:50:28 PM I've never felt comfortable leaving my helmet/jacket on the bike. Lock or not. I don't see how people do it...

Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: SpikeC on August 13, 2015, 11:57:12 AM I have a friend that always leaves his hat on the bike, unsecured. It gives me the willies but he has not had one disappear. Another friend and I always take it with us, however sometimes when I park at the local VA hospital I leave it on the bike, and never had a problem.
I carry a cable with padlock in my backpack and sometimes use that. My bike has no built in helmet lock. Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: ducpainter on August 13, 2015, 12:03:49 PM I leave my helmet on the bike and usually the key in it if I'm north of Concord.
Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: Jumptship on August 14, 2015, 12:57:02 AM I made up some pieces out of scrap sheet metal to block access. I am at work now and can snap a couple pics when I get home...if I don't forget.

That is exactly what I need. I garage my bike but I don't trust these people when I go to class. I never had my R1 fkd with while in school, but this is a DUCATI, a whole different beast. Half the bikes I see at school are beat the hell up...and both the R1 and the Monster stand out LOL so I will be coming up with something similar.(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5630/19959730574_028da6e8a1_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/wpLQvL)20150814_211713 (https://flic.kr/p/wpLQvL) by teamgreenrulz (https://www.flickr.com/photos/26492271@N03/), on Flickr (https://farm1.staticflickr.com/684/20394340630_d3e705ecbb_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/x5bjWA)20150814_211725 (https://flic.kr/p/x5bjWA) by teamgreenrulz (https://www.flickr.com/photos/26492271@N03/), on Flickr Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: Jumptship on August 15, 2015, 01:31:38 AM BTW, don't judge me by the dirt on the bike... [laugh]
With the seat installed you can't see the "finger blockers" unless you are really looking through gap under seat. Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you? Post by: pitbull on August 21, 2015, 10:08:02 AM I bought a cheap, dog choke chain from the dollar store and covered it in a length of rubber inner tube. I run that chain through the sleeve of my jacket, through the chin section of my helmet and lock it with a cheap pad lock, through the handlebar risers.
I'm not walking around with a helmet and jacket. Title: Re: Do you leave it behind or take it with you?
