Justin Wilson IRL driver just passed from injuries sustained when he was hit in the head with debri from a wreck that happened in front of him at Pocono yesterday. I knew he couldn't survive that hit while I was watching it. Very sad, he was an awesome guy. RIP

I don't normally care... but this guy was a class act.

He had a really great idea for fan safety over high tech safety barriers.

'Put them in the infield...90+% of crashes go to the outside on an oval. That's why you see the smart rally car fans at the apex of a corner...'

Justin is survived by his wife, Julia, and children Jane and Jessica.

Like I said in an earlier post the guy was a class act. I appreciate the way he thought. Never heard of him before you posted, but the world is worse off for his demise...of that I'm certain.

He carried a donor card, they asked us, and we clarified that he wanted to donate. It's a tough thing to consider; you want him to be whole, but it's something he'd discussed with Julia and we honored what he wanted and went ahead with it."  "And now six families have received an incredible gift," he continued. "Knowing the impact it had, I'm all for it and so glad we did that. His organs are saving some people right now; it's amazing. It makes his life more powerful."

Powerful thing, organ donation.

Friend of mine (a doctor) was really suffering for several years with liver failure from an infection he rec'd in hospital.  Organ donation saved his life.
