Title: Carbed Monster fueling fix? (Thoughts welcome)
Post by: Duck-Stew on August 29, 2015, 05:23:55 PM
97 M900 and it lives in the high desert.  If caught out in hot heat, bike eventually vapor locks.

So, here's my thought: what if I made a return line back to the tank (likely a smaller ID hose) to keep fuel moving and keep it pumping into the float bowls.  The stagnent fuel in the hose is causing the vapor lock.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

Mine had problems in summer Boston traffic.  Thought the stock fuel pump in the stock location was getting too hot.  Went with an Airtex electric fuel pump under the seat with the proper flow rate and pressure for FCR's.  Installed a heat shield, with some of that high temp matting, between the vert header and the pump.  No problems since.

If the bike is set up stock the bottom hose (from pump to carb) can collapse if soft.  Also, this could be a sign of the pump beginning to fail.  This is how I ran mine.  Yes, regular thicker fuel and the red thing is a manual petcock.
