Title: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: iBoesen on August 30, 2015, 07:05:50 PM Hell All,
I am pretty new to the forum. Im loaded with questions. I have been searching around I have not been able to find much help on 2 topics. Fairings & Replacement tanks. I own a 2003 Monster Dark ie 620 (http://i.imgur.com/B1tICzY.jpg) To start out with, I am looking to put some fairings on my bike over the winter. Some people do not like the look but I have found a post of people using Ducati 1098 Fairings on a Monster 620. Here is the thread. http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=10944.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=10944.0) If you look on the Far right and Left you see these bikes are 620's. I am looking to do just what they did, on a street legal platform. Has any else seen these fairings? I would also need to mount new headlights to the bike itself. Question 2: Tank repair. On the other side of my tank, there is a sizable dent. *Dont have photo. I went to the local body shop and they said it would cost me quite a bit to fix it and that I would be better off just buying a new tank. I have fitment questions. I have looked for information on comparable tanks and nobody seems to answer the question clearly as to what will fit on a 620 dark ie. If anyone has any information I like to know. If it would maybe just be better to bondo the dent too? Any advise at all would be appreciated, Thank you very much for your time. If for looks: a permanent, professional installation requires welding tabs onto the frame... Tank dent... I hear ducpainter is good at fixing those. Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: iBoesen on August 30, 2015, 07:44:36 PM Im sorry, I think I typed that wrong.
This winter im doing a tear down of my bike, fixing issues and replacing things. The whole 9 yards. Getting it ready for next riding season. I am looking at putting on fairings for aesthetic reasons. I just think they look awesome. Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: kopfjäger on August 30, 2015, 07:46:51 PM No, the Monster is a naked bike, please don't add useless parts to it, please. ;)
Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: iBoesen on August 30, 2015, 07:58:48 PM I know what you mean. I know it is supposed to be a naked bike. I just think it would be cool to switch it up a bit.

Your bike looks awesome, don't make the beast with two backs it up. ;) Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: iBoesen on August 30, 2015, 08:11:48 PM Haha, Thanks for the feedback!
Opinion on the dank dent?? Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: kopfjäger on August 30, 2015, 08:14:40 PM Haha, Thanks for the feedback! Opinion on the dank dent?? ¿Que? Title: Re: Post by: Raux on August 30, 2015, 08:16:01 PM Buy an Ss if u want fairings and aircooled. Or buy a sbk and do a mts1100 engine swap
Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: iBoesen on August 30, 2015, 08:17:47 PM I'm sorry, I meant to say the *Tank Dent.
One of my first priorities is getting that huge dent in the tank taken care of. Whether that be Bondo or a new tank. Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: kopfjäger on August 30, 2015, 08:28:52 PM Search for a new tank.
Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: Dirty Duc on August 30, 2015, 08:40:54 PM The only people that "switched it up a bit" to put fairings on were taking advantage of some obscure local racing rules.
It is easier to put together a "bitsa" than to add full SBK fairings to a Monster. Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: koko64 on August 30, 2015, 09:54:31 PM What about a Monster bikini fairing?
Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: He Man on August 31, 2015, 10:18:16 AM calling a bikini fairing on a monster a fairing is like calliing a girl in an actual bikini proper work attire....unless shes a stripper.
and if you want fairings on ur monster frame, then the obvious question is where do u mount them? answer: u cant, unless u make the mounts. are u ready for that level of commitment? when you take the fairings off, ull see the mounts. Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: koko64 on August 31, 2015, 02:08:40 PM The oem bikini fairings provide surprisingly good protection for their size, are easy to fit and keep the bike basically naked in style. A good balance. Might be the solution.
Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: SpikeC on August 31, 2015, 03:43:08 PM I was in a similar situation a while back. I had mostly naked bikes with low bars from the late 70's until I acquired a BMW K1200RS around '99 or so. From that one I went to an R1100S, a mostly faired bike with an exposed engine. It was when I bought my first Monster at the beginning of '13 that I found myself lusting for a early '90's SS fairing for my Monster. I had become rather fond of the protection that a sport type fairing provided.
Then during a visit to Moto Corsa here in PDX I saw a Bimota DB5R in the used bike department. Love and lust at first sight! It has the motor that my Monster had, a red trellis frame, and a fairing that showed off the frame and the engine! What could be better? The fairing mounts are not that big a deal imo, those selling race fairings can assist in that regard, all the rest is just fiddling details, if that is what you want I say go for it, or alternatively go buy a Bimota! Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: iBoesen on August 31, 2015, 06:49:33 PM Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever put a Ducati 1098 Gas tank on their 620 monster? I was looking at the frame shape and Air Filter box location and they look very similar. Plus those tanks are CHEAP! I know I would probably have to change the seat as well. Anyone have any input on this topic?
Thanks. Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: iBoesen on August 31, 2015, 06:53:38 PM I was in a similar situation a while back. Thanks for the help! I think the 1098 fairings look really shape. The biggets problem I see with that is getting headlights for the thing and being able to mount them on aswell. Title: Re: Post by: Raux on August 31, 2015, 08:04:57 PM You can either weld on frame mounts for the headlight bracket or build a clamp style mount for the bracket.

Should be plug & play, but be aware that S4R(S) has bigger heads and might not fit under these tanks. Should be easy to ask and find out. Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: ducriderinct on September 20, 2015, 12:34:01 AM I have a used set of fairings in a Ducati corse design made by nice cycle off my 1098 I am selling. Not perfect but most parts are in decent shape. If you have any interest, let me know. I think it's a pretty cool look personally... Make me an offer ...

I'd love to find a bigger tank for my S4RS right now I get about 75 miles then I get the low fuel light. One of the things I've noticed about the S4RS it was kind of a short run, I think only 3 years, so finding parts specifically for the model is a little tricky.BTW I am on my third nylon tank, luckily I did not have to pay for the two replacements. On this last one I had the tank coated first, but it is still slightly larger than the original, at least not lumpy, bit a bit of a PITA to re-latch Title: Re: Post by: Raux on September 20, 2015, 02:32:30 PM Check out the california cycleworks tanks
Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: Nibor on September 21, 2015, 06:31:04 PM (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff57/ohana181/Untitled.jpg) Not a fan of the paint scheme, but the fairing in general isn't half bad! Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: MotoPsycho on September 22, 2015, 09:07:09 AM I think the bikini fairing and a belly pan go a long way. you could always change the headlight completely too.

Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: Junkie on September 28, 2015, 06:19:28 AM I'd suggest a bikini fairing, they do more than you might expect. For many of them you can also get a taller windshield for when you want more wind protection.
Title: Re: Ducati Monster Fairings Post by: koko64 on September 28, 2015, 10:17:18 AM I made the same suggestion.
Curious to see what you decided to do. Still leaning toward adapting a SBK fairing? |
