Title: Lifting tank on a monster 1200???
Post by: nickbee on September 03, 2015, 08:30:47 PM
I removed the carbon canister and extended the fuel vent hose using a fitting, as a temporary fix.  I'd like to run a single length of vent hose to the bottom of the bike without a connection.

I bought the hose and went to lift my tank tonight as there is not much fuel left in it.

I removed the rubber key guard and unlatched the front strap... went to lift and it stopped after an few inches...

I even tried removing the rear clamp in case that was interfering.

Am I missing something?  Surely this ting must tilt more to get access to the stuff underneath?

THANKS!!

I think you have done everything to remove it.

Re the rear attach point, the shop manual specifies to remove the screw and slide the tank retaining flange out. If I understand you correctly, you have done that.

It goes on to say to lift it enough to remove the pump connector and QDs. The shop manual picture which illustrates disconnecting the pump does look as though the tank is not raised very high.

Yes I did remove the rear retaining flange.  There is no way this thing is lifting enough to get under there to disconnect stuff.  It's almost as if something is bundled together under there restricting the movement up.

I just wanted to make sure I was not missing something.  When I bring the bike to the dealer this weekend for the exhaust map I'll have them take a look...
