At the risk of getting into trouble for using the 'F' word ... I was wondering if anybody was actually going tomorrow ... or if anybody might actually be reading.

We are currently weighing up our options considering the 'F' word ... and wondering if we might just be better off making a run to Orange for the football.

Haven't been bothered to even clean the bikes so far ... is it worth it, is anybody interested?

Well it is wet up here ... so not much point in riding out for a Concours event.

Also, since it seems people are happy to email or text, but not post on the forum (or not allowed to) communication is a bit difficult. Don't particularly want to travel all the way down in the wet to wander about on our own ... still contemplating a trip to Orange in lieu.

Not allowed to?  All current OzMo members are allowed to post.  Some choose not to.  And of course, that's entirely up to them [thumbsup].

It was also good to hear first hand a few reasons why people were choosing not to post.

what's VERY interesting to me is the fact that this particular forum was started on the back of  member backlash at the old place due to VS taking over and heavy handed moderation/censorship......

Sure there's growing pains but this place was just fine for ages, with a good solid core of members who all got along fine and even though the sydneysiders had the advantage of getting together often, members from all over were made just as welcome, so what great travesty has effectively make the beast with two backsed this sub forum?

Actually this place was started due to the onslaught of advertising that VS was going to subject us to. It had nothing to do with moderation. The same moderators that were heavy handed started it if you'll remember.

The recent shite began when some members were asked to tone it down a bit, due to complaints from other Aussie members, and decided that chest thumping like a bunch of teens was a better way to deal with the request than just growing up. That created a situation when management had no choice but to become heavy handed because change was going to happen. It's a free country, but this forum's rules are not necessarily founded on freedom of speech.

It is somewhat comical that the reaction to all this is more whining. If you dislike this place...sod off mates and start your own.  [thumbsup]

Since it seems that there are so many complaints from a few that are offended by the enforcement of a few simple rules...

Thanks ... I know there are a few people that might feel better if they get things off their chest ... but I'm guessing that is not what you really want.

The number of OzMos (past or present) that I spoke to at the Concours is numbered in double figures ... some were regular posters, some not ... one I would consider part of the OzMo community even though they may never have posted. So I would say it was not just the so called trouble making minority.

A common concern was difficult to understand moderation - deleting and moving posts making things difficult to understand what the hell is going on (right or wrong) ... and I have brought this up with the mods via PM before. Surprise, surprise this gets seen as heavy-handedness particularly by those that were not privy to all the context. From personal experience I can attest that it makes it very difficult to defend the actions of the Mods.

Case in point:

Why was my post above moved from the Concours thread? ... It is pretty much a given that you are not allowed to mention the Forecast before an event so as not to be seen as a jinx if the weather turns foul. OK so you may think I was 'pregnant doging' about the weather but I don't think that warrants being the headline act in a new thread ... the Concourse thread is now missing that context.

My second post above was just acknowledgement of the the difficulties I had with receiving texts from various sources ... being able to see that dozens of people had read the thread but not posted. So I was effectively telling people I was receiving their messages even though I may not have responded to them all (many regulars on here know I am no good with the mobile phone).

My third post above was purely because Unge chose to make a political statement ... which at the time still didn't really help because I have no way of knowing who may or may not have been banned and/or suspended and/or withdrawn their participation from the forum by their own accord. I thought the thread was staying on subject until that point.

Now if you really want me to have a whinge ...

After being asked nicely to please abide by forum rules.  The Flounders have the right to assert what goes on in here and if you don't like the way they seek to run it, then make the beast with two backs off and start your own Internet forum.

What really pisses me off is that - absolutely contrary to popular perception - ungeheuer has been advocating that this place be NOT nuked into oblivion by Admin.  I'm making a pest of myself in the ears of Admin..... trying to make the case that once the shit-stirrers get bored and go away, OzMo can be a place which abides by the rules accepted by the entire rest of the forum. 

But I'm fighting a losing battle. 

So go ahead, keep it up and paint ME as the bad guy.  I don't use this make the beast with two backsing unruly shit-hole so it'll be no loss to me if/when it does get blown the make the beast with two backs away.

I've certainly been posting away in a variety of threads, doing just that, talking about Monsters...

But it's been deathly quiet in here, for quite a while.

None of the Sydney siders (pardon me if that's not an accurate geographical description) seems to want to talk to anyone who isn't IN their group.

Perhaps they're too outraged, or stubborn, or worried about being banned, or wanting it the way it was (a perceived club of their own) to actually take your advice Gino. Or perhaps it's another reason, who knows??

Whatever it is, it reminds me exactly of how it was when I first started posting in here years ago. Which is why I vacated and started hanging out with the Northern Hemispherians!

They were much more inclusive although, the time differences, and indeed my conservative bed times made ongoing regular real time conversations problematic.

Other Aussies frequently post there and clearly stay up later than I, and have forged decent friendships.

All Aussies should take a look at how they operate. Their postership (new term) is from all over the U.S and various other countries and yet they are not exclusive.

As much as some Aussies like to dump on the Americans, if the time difference was better, I'd probably not need the OzMo section of the forum. They are much more inclusive and inclined to give someone a fair go.

We could actually learn quite a bit from how they operate.

I do admit that for a while I thought that this place was actually starting to change, but then it went deathly quiet again.

I can break it down unlike the diplomatic efforts of Ung and GK; unaccountable, exclusive, clique'.
There were notable exceptions like the welcoming Jukie, but over time a large number got the message and left. Jukie showed more grit than you blokes and you lnow who you are.
And dont give me any bullshit about being inflammatory because you blokes taking on the moderators just cant handle the truth when its looking at you hard. Jukie to her credit recognized that the moderators hold us all accountable (including myself if they do deem this post inflammatory). If some here call this inflammatory then that would be pretty rich! The role of the Moderator is fundamental to this forum and its sub forums. If you dont like it you know what to do. I've had to cop moderation I didnt agree with as a condition of membership and I lived. I suggest you blokes man up and do the same. If the Moderator gives me time in the sin bin then I'll take it on the chin. I just couldnt stand by and watch you blokes make the beast with two backs this up with your whining and sniping.

i think you might be mistaken there, i'm not part of any "clique" i am however a sociable person and have no issue with making friends, wherever they choose to reside and whomever they choose to associate with, as such, being from brisbane i get along fine with most ozmo people and have had no issues whatsoever with anyone.

I'm not talking about anyone's riding, it's a bike forum, so saying i don't know what you ride is a pretty obvious way of saying i know absolutely nothing about you, that's all.

I'm not taking on the moderators, i have no interest in fighting city hall, i'm merely looking for clarification on why i was suspended, and according to the rules i can expect to know in a timely manner.

If you find the situation hilarious then laugh yourself silly, that's fine with me, but i know that if there is a clique of sydney siders i'm not aware of it, because to see a clique you have feel excluded from it, i get along with nearly everyone and don't feel excluded at all, i don't begrudge a group of likeminded people riding together and becoming close friends either. isn't that what this place is supposed to be about?

  I would describe Ungeheuer's moderating style as uncompromising, tough but fair and straight to the point, which is pretty much exactly how I would describe your posting style over the years (entirely to your credit). I honestly just don't understand what you and a few others are complaining about. A couple of people who ran riot for a few years and trashed every thread (something that you Betty and TheDon never got involved in) finally got moderated, spat the dummy and left. Their choice.
  Anyone who thinks there "democratic sensibilities" and "freedom of speech" are being trampled on under the "jackboot of the new regime" should go back over their posts (prior to the past couple of weeks) and try to find a post  that would now get moderated, I bet they would come up with a big fat zero, so what the hell is the problem ? So  Ozmonsters is being moderated. Yawn.  

Loony, it dont feel like a clique when you're one of those allowed in. I know what the forum is about and I ride regularly with forum members down here. This place won't be around long the way its going. All it needed was for some members to accept moderation and say "sorry mate I was out of line". I have had to say that on occasion.

You blokes can try all the fancy footwork you like. Bottom line, there was no moderator presence, one was appointed and applied the rules and those that dont like it are crying foul. It is hilarious because its akin to middle class boys with "Such is life" stickers on their HSV utes.

yep, well i was wrong actually, he didn't censor anything, ducpainter moved my posts to this thread and no one said anything or PM'ed to let the posters know their post had been moved.

It was enough to get me suspended as per above, all i wanted was an explanation as to why i got suspended, i posted publicly asking because it was posted publicly that i had been booted, i have no problem with moderation because as you say, i don't generally cause a ruckus.

...and I'll continue to move things as I see fit, without notification, and expect you'll either ask via pm or check your profile to see if the post still exists, and not become accusatory regarding censorship.

Members privileges are not rights as explained above.

WTF!

Much has happened here in the last few months.
There has been some seriously disappointing things happen to very good people on this forum.

True there was not much action here, may people had come and gone and those that were still here kept things going
and the banter was always light and jovial. True late night red wine posting did often take over but it never really hurt anyone and if some got offended then it was just a matter of either asking the poster to pull it back a notch or just don't read it.

After meeting the greater Sydney group on Thursday night this week (some 12 people) for a social night that was supposed to host a new visitor/temporary resident to Sydney who couldn't turn up in the end. There was as you would expect much chatter about the further death of the OzMonster forum.

Since coming to this new home in 2009 from memory the OzMonster board never had a moderator. There was no need as there was a great group of people who all knew on another, many in person which sometimes doesn't happen with digital hangouts such as this. Bigiain, Nickors/Goldfish and Rusty (pervious Mods) were still here but also dropped off. Rusty moved to QLD and sold all motorcycles, Bigiain went and hung out at a new home the BikeMe forum and Nick was still around for a few years but as with many others dropped off.

There was still a small core bunch for a while who still hung out here and for the most part all knew each other both here and IRL especially the Sydney group. Most of us have each others numbers are FB friends and exchange phone calls and rides with our own smaller social circles.
Some might say they are "clicks" and might not feel invited but really if that is the way they think then that is up to there own judgement, regardless of their geographic location.
What it really is, is life. People find friends within a larger group and tend to hangout and ride together as well as ride with the bigger social group when it comes along.

Hearing of people referring to Sydney folk as a "click" or even people within that group as being part of the "click" is simply untrue. For those who have been here long enough you might know that for many years the Sydney based OzMo riders would gather en-mass pretty often for larger groups rides (15-20) bikes at a time. All were welcome and all came along, no click, just a good ride and chat.

So now that we have had a Mod installed, many have been band. Trouble has been made, people have accused others of mis-conduct. PM's have been forwarded to report behavior which is breaking rules in itself as a PM is just the Private Message. Meaning someone has something to say to you that they don't want broadcast.
People have asked questions and been band, people have requested more information and been band.
People have been "taking the piss" or sarcastic and been band. We all know there is no tone in a keyboard and we also know that many here have a very dry sense of humour.

Personally I had some phone calls and messages about whatever situation unfolded. I was asked to jump back on as one of the older and somewhat defacto leaders of the Oz Mo mob here in Sydney. But really it was not my place to have anything to say as firstly we are all adults here. And secondly pretty much all the older Sydney mob have or had each others numbers/emails and if they really needed to sort something out then just make a call. It's that easy.

And if you couldn't make a call and sort it out which would be unlikely as to the best of my knowledge everyone always got on.
Sure people bickered and had the shits for a day or two but no-one took anything any further or sent messages either through this board or to a members mobile (cell) phone with hateful things to say.

It is really disappointing to know that this home feels like it will never be the same again.
I feel like as ever a few people have managed to destroy it for the many who still did drop in from time to time and hangout.

And if this gets deleted or I get dealt the same as others it might just go to prove the point.

We never needed a Mod here and we still don't. We all just need to know that we are adults. 

You won't get banned.

You'll retain a moderator.

You aren't adult enough.

End of story.

Then you really and truly don't understand us or the majority of people here at all which is why they aren't any people here anymore.

And you have a modorater to moderate no-one.

Oh well you're loss, cause the only people here that ever gathered as a group and rode motorcycles were the group from Sydney and they can do that without a board because we know each other.

Seriously go back and look at the history since before your newly appointed Mod.
And have a look at things since he was instated.

You make some accusations in your original post, but neglect to mention that the shite hit the fan because the members that you claim were treated wrongly were posting pm's on the open board...were asked to knock it back a notch...and refused.

I don't care if they take their antics elsewhere. This forum isn't about the kinds of things they wanted it for. It's fine with me if this is a ghost town. I prefer that to the private clubhouse it had become for those few childish members.

If you want to discuss further pm is the way to go.

Just to state the facts for a moment:  One has been banned.  Just a single solitary one.

During the ruckus a hand-full received a couple of days suspension - a short 'time-out' to cool their heels - but are not now nor ever were banned. 

They just chose to stay away.  Which, given the general unwillingness to play within the rules, is probably for the best.
