Hello guys ...
06 S2R1000 With 12k Miles , Stock ECU , FBF exhaust and danmoto mid pipe all the way with no charcoal can , Open air Box with stock filter
Battery was disconnected for about a week during valve shiming and TB replacement . Connected every thing back together and it ran like it should with zero mechanical issue but noticed fast idle not kicking in when its cold but it never shuts off , However when Bike gets up to temp standing still lets say around 145+ and you shut it off and restart it almost need a nudge of throttle twist to keep it going then its fine. I went for test ride and got it up to 200F and shut off and restarted it but it did not idle it died Then i tried again with tad of throttle and all good
got home I disconnected the stepper motor to test , I tried when its hot with great success RPM jumped to 1400 then went down to 1200RPM. I never had this issue prior disconnecting the battery .
Does these computers loose programming /Sync if battery was disco that LONG . Bike runs like it should during my test ride
I also use to hear auto calibration routine funny noises when i turn the key off prior disconnecting the battery .. Now i no longer hear them auto calibration routine noise .If that makes any sense.
I tuned to the Stepper motor during shut off and noticed very faded squint noise :-\. Disconnecting the O2 did not do any thing
go to the dealer so they can perform a Stepper motor test with the diagnostic tool . . . might need reseting
Yah .. It sound like that might be the option , The closest dealer is 3 hours away from me . Taking the Bike on 5 days trip and was hoping for some sort of soft reset option or similar

IS resetting the Steeper motor are option on the stock ECU ?
the DDS can perform a test, opening and closing it and a few times I'been lucky enough to make it work properly . . . at times what has happened is that bike has been cold and ownwer has been in a hurry given gas and the stteper has "locked" itself in a position in between and just allowing enoguh air to allow it to start but not keep it running until warm
Well i have 2 Q's that no one seems to have the answer to it and you might is :
1- Does disconnecting the battery for almost 7 days during the time i was doing shim replacement and Timing belt might caused this ill effect on the Stepper motor , TPS sensor , Temp sensor or one of them
2- After i disconnected the stepper motor the 2nd Time when bike reached 180f + for testing it started & ran perfect ( although it revs little higher then it droops to 1200+/- RPM )
VS
The stepper is connected at the same operating temp and i shut it off then try to start it back up it fires right up but then stumble and die unless i give it a throttle assist
As said, the stepper motor might be stuck in a position and when is energized it will go to closed position . . .
Diaconnecting the battery should have no effect on thise settings . . My M620 hasn't lost none of it's settings when it has been without any electrical juice for over a year or so . . .Only had to reset the time
Set up a Vist with a Duc service Dept this Saturday 3 hours+ away from my home town to get the diag tool on the bike and hope to reset the stepper motor and sort this issue out
In the mean time i started it again yesterday and got it up to 135f , After i shut it off i stared it back up but she wont stay running on it's own without my throttle assistance disconnected the stepper and tried she started and ran on it's own like a speedy horse outa the gate .
I will keep you posted
last post suggests that when 0V stepper opens and allows for idle . . . it seems the motor might be faulty is when given voltage closes and wont regulate . . . weird indeed . . .
In the beginning i was worry that it had something to do with my Valve shim ( Vertical Exhaust Opener shim only ) work and TB replacement but i made sure that every thing lined up perfect as before i started .. After taking it for a ride and rev it up pretty darn good then started to mess with wires related to that circuit i was more leaning towards link> sync > ECU comm issue or Stepper related function ..
Figured if i jumped timing a tooth or so it would behaved a hole lot difference
you messed with wires? what you do?
Not really messed with the wires to say as much as i was trouble shooting the connector and the effects of connecting and disconnecting the stepper , O2 sensor and temp sensor connector on top of the Horizontal cylinder .I was making sure that all connection is clean . Prior to that all what i did was pushed the battery tray, ECU attached and it's connection to the side hanging over the Vertical to get clean access to the rear exhaust valve .
Been going for short rides due to weather / Heavy rain , Got 2 rides so far 10-15 miles each . 1st ride Bike start pretty good and warm up well ... Seems Idle between 1100-1200 Max got it up running to 225f operating pushing 7500RPM + shut it off and restart it with no problems the 1st trip , Last night done the same thing and restarted it fine but it drooped the RPM's but i assisted it with throttle ..
At this Point i am Not sure if i should stick to my original plan of getting it diag before i take it for 5 days mountain trip or Keep on riding it and see
take it for diag/repair . . .
Shop had rechecked my work ( timing belt replacement ) , The timing belt tension was set up on the tight side as i did not use the frequency method since i dont have that tool. Shop rechecked the timing and adjusted the tension to 105 mhz . i was happy that i did not screw up the timing by jumping a tooth or so but here what we discovered and the way we solved it :
The throttle body's needed to be synchronized specially after Re shiming and adjusting valves no difference from Carb bikes along with the necessary adjustment , The tech did rest the TPS , the Diag tool showed the stepper motor was running at is max to make up for the throttle body's and TPS . After the sync and resetting the TPS along with adjusting the idle the bike felt and rode like i never experienced it before . Mind you i am not the original owner and the Throttle body's never been touched before or have i experienced that bike new . Now it feels like a complete new bike and the power delivery is super amazing and smooth . Bike start cold /hot like a clock work
