Title: Sport 1000 wire wheels on '93 Monster
Post by: johnw138 on December 16, 2015, 11:24:47 AM
Hi, i have been a member of this board a while but havent been posting, just researching..

Anyway, Im from Sweden, i bought a 1994 900 monster a couple of years ago.  Always been dreaming about wire wheels,
and last year i scored a pair of 2008 black sport 1000 wheels. I have also gotten my hands on aprilia fork legs from a 2003
tuono. Since my triple tree is 50/54 im having the top yoke bored and i have shims for the lower yoke. This will make
the wheel swap a bit easier with the axle of the aprilia beeing 25mm as the sport 1000 wheel. I also have the 2pot calipers
from the SC so they will clear the spokes.

I have read as much about the wheel swap as i can find , but i would like some pointers from people who has done this mod.

Please correct me if im wrong;

Monsters from 93-01  have a 17mm rear axle. Monsters from 2002-08 have a 25mm hollow axle.
Other then the different axle the wheels have the same width, so a 2008 sport 1000 wheel SHOULD align with
my monsters sprocket and rotor.

About the front wheel swap. I have seen guys using the aprilia fork legs on monsters with a monster wheel,
my hope is that with spacers from the sport 1000, and a spacer the same lenght as the speedo drive, the wheel should be centered without much trouble. I guess this is far fetched :)

Any info on this is much appreciated! Thanks!

My monster, yep, thats a nice ductape exhaust-mock up ;)

No idea what you'll be facing with the Ape legs on the front.

AFAIK, the rear wheel situation:

The gen 2 swingarms moved both aft ends ~5-6mm to the left, compared to gen 1 swingarms.

So, I think you'll need to use your small-axle sprocket carrier to maintain proper sprocket alignment.

And the gen 1 position of the rim relative to the hub is different, which you may be able to deal with relatively easily as it's a spoked wheel.

The caliper bracket may still be an issue, as the gen 1 is ~28mm thick, and gen 2 is ~20mm thick.

Thank you for your answer! I found this thread, http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=43763.msg788582#msg788582 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=43763.msg788582#msg788582),
it looks like a 1gen monster or am i wrong? Stock swingarm, stock caliper, PS caliper mount.

Yes, that's a Gen1 monster.

I don't have a spoked-wheel Duc in the shop right now, so I've got nothing to measure.
Perhaps the spoked wheels are more like the Gen1 wheels than the Gen2, dunno.
