Title: Help me figure out if I have an ECU mod of some sort? Post by: mga on December 20, 2015, 07:58:27 AM Hey folks,
My first post other then my intro, so thanks for all the info I've gotten from everyones posting. I am trying to figure out if my bike has had some ECU tuning done at some point. I got the bike used with these mods already done. So here's the all the details. bike is a 2006 s2r 800, it has K and N pod filters with the Tpo intake kit, a full zard exhaust the bike runs and idles great, no backfiring or misfiring, no check engine light, plugs read fine to maybe a bit lean, however my immobilizer is still active and the light flashes as such. So, is there a way of telling if the ecu or fueling has been tuned to fit the exhaust and increased air flow? i'm mostly curious to see if there's more I could get out of the bike by some dyno tuning to fully use the advantages of the intake/exhaust system. Thanks for the help in advance. Title: Re: Help me figure out if I have an ECU mod of some sort? Post by: ducpainter on December 20, 2015, 08:06:35 AM My first question would be how does it run? With those intake and exhaust mods I'd think it would be very very lean if some sort of ecu mods had not been performed.
What kind of temps do you see when running. Any 'HOT' warnings? Have you checked the plugs? Title: Re: Help me figure out if I have an ECU mod of some sort? Post by: mga on December 20, 2015, 08:15:15 AM Thats what I would have thought as well.
Last I checked the plugs they seemed fine, but its been a while since I checked them proper. But then again I am also not an expert at reading plugs, I just went/go by internet/google help. The temps all seem with in normal range, in hot summer time weather running hard it see's 200 plus but mostly in the 175 ish range i'd say. No hot warnings ever. Often, people do use canned maps that work well enough but can be improved on. The immobilizer light will work even if the immobilizer was killed.

Post by: mga on December 20, 2015, 12:02:50 PM Ok thanks for the replies, so most likely its been mapped somehow since it runs fine and I would guess its not too lean as when warming up with the idle speed all the way up i can sometimes get just the smallest whiff of gas in the exhaust.
Would I mess up the ecu/gauges if I tried to check the immobilizer somehow? perhaps unplugging the gauges and seeing if it starts? That would tell me if the immobilizer has been disabled wouldnt it? Post by: Speeddog on December 21, 2015, 10:31:38 AM To check if the immobilizer is working, unplug the antenna that's in the keyswitch surround.
Then try to start it. |
