Title: 2009 m1100 leaning over too much?
Post by: polivo on January 05, 2016, 10:45:51 AM
over the last week, it seems my monster is leaning over a little more and more?  I read a few threads and the cause in a few cases seems to be the kickstand mount is broken?

I got under the bike and I dont see anything out of the ordinary.  Granted, im not very mechanical.. maybe im missing something.  I took a few pictures. Am i looking at the right piece?

I did wiggle the kickstand.. and there is play in the kickstand where its affixed to a mount. The mount seems tight to the body.. no play.  Any thoughts appreciated. please eyeball the pics :)

It doesn't seem much different than most bikes?

After 'some time' the stand wears and will wiggle. It doesn't take much wiggle before the bike leans a few degrees more. New side stand might help, but probably not necessary.

Another possibility is that the holes in the engine case are worn/damaged. You would need to get the bike on a rear stand and remove the bolts and inspect the holes for worn/damaged threads.

Silly question.. ive never take one off. Looking at the bolts, will i have to take off the passenger peg bracket (big bolt in picture) in order to get the kick stand off?  It looks like the kickstand bracket is sandwiched underneath the "chicken wing"?

Check that both of these bolts are tight:

You do not need to remove the footpeg bracket to get the sidestand off, but doing so makes it much easier to confirm that the threaded hole in the case is good.

My M1100S leaned over like that and it bugged me, so I installed an SSR side stand and was happy as a clam at high tide!

Lean angle looks normal to me.

can anyone tell by those pics if my "kickstand case mount" is broken?  its 15 degrees in NY.. not looking forward to trying to take off the kick stand. lol

thanks speed dog. I just wrapped her up for the winter. I was hoping not to come back and find her on the ground due to a broken mount.. but I didn't see anything obvious. Just some wiggle at the kickstand. But NO wiggle where the kick stand plate attaches to the lower case.  Im assuming it's the kickstand. I tried tightening the little bolt in front (kickstand), nothing.. little bolt in the backof the kickstand.. no change.

You could put the bike on a rearstand if you have one.
