Title: fitting an oil cooler M695
Post by: cencalal on February 08, 2016, 02:32:08 PM
Got all the parts and the procedure looks real simple.  Never mind for now that the oil filter won't budge and that I'll have to run around looking for a filter wrench that might fit under there, unless someone knows the exact tool for that?

Next step is transferring the temp sensor from the original 695 valve cover to the new cover with the cooler mount out front.  It won't budge with an 8" pin spanner wrench that I have in my bicycle tools - is it loctited in place?  Will one of these inexpensive adjustable face pin spanners work?

Thanks
Alan

I'll just answer this one myself.  Made a pin wrench out of some bits lying around, and yes, lots of red loctite in there.  Lubricated self with cold beer.  Success is sweet.

For your other dilemma, this is what I use:

Mine are similar to these... (http://www.ntxtools.com/Merchant/graphics/00000001/kdt-2187d.gif)...

I have two sizes.

Thanks - my local autozone has some filter wrenches like that.  Supposed to go down to 2 7/8", so that should work.  No room for the socket type without moving the exhaust headers.  I finished mounting the cooler and it looks good with the stainless hoses wrapping around underneath.  The ebay seller says it's from a Hyper 796 - everything seems to fit nicely.  The valve cover is from a 2000 M900, so I guess those are mostly the same as well?  I'll get that bypass spring in there tomorrow with an oil change.

None to soon, it seems - The Golden State (motto: Brown is the New Gold!) is having record breaking heat.  It was 86º here today. So let's ride!   8)

Good luck with the temp sensor. I tired pin spanners from Park Tools to no effect. Ended up gripping it with ViceGrips and heating it with a MAPP torch.

As for the oil filter, spike it with a #3 phillips screwdriver and spin it off. Lube the gasket and torque the new one properly to avoid the problem the next time. If you think you have it tight enough, it's probably way to tight.
