My significant other works for the WB and they had a free screening of the new Batman movie for employees today. She was able to get me in. I'm not much of a comic book fan and only saw the first Batman movie with Michael Keeton, which I thought sucked. This movie blew me away!!! Definitly not a kids movie. I'm gonna have to rent the previous one now.
Definately rent the previous one! I can't wait to see it, and they say that the role Heath Ledger played messed him up so bad and that is why he was on the medication.

sorry dude Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson owned those roles. granted, every other one since sucked balls, but the 1989 movie was definitive.
Went to the midnight showing last night. Amazing movie. Heath Ledger was brilliant, would never know it was him playing the joker. Best batman movie to date. definately worth going to.
Just differences in execution. Tim Burton is a fabulous filmmaker but the guy who has done these two batman flicks is definitely more in touch with the dark hero persona of Batman than Burton was.

I will agree that the first with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson (amazing) was great. Having said that, those original movie were based off of the original Batman comics...The last 2 have been from a completely different series of comics know as "The Dark Knight". It is hard to compare the two...I believe that both are very good, and depending on how you veiw the character of "Batman" will certainly influence your choice in character. I personally believe that the new one out is going to rock!
the whole movie was the JOKER
made nicholson look like mickey mouse
unreal the role heath played unreal!!!!
just got back. I'd disagree that the whole movie was the Joker. The writers made excellent use of all the usual pantheon (Alfred, Cmsr. Gordon, etc.) and built on to the Batman story content they opened with in 'Batman Begins' and tied up a loose end or two. Heath Ledger (R.I.P.) did a great job with the character; made him seem like a "real" criminal mastermind gone a bit nutty but still within the relevant range of human behavior, not overly psychotic. The writers did a good job of not making him rely on the stupid practical jokes and other (Jim Carey) Riddler type crap. Instead they used more sophisticated and plot enhancing stuff. Well done.
The sort of subtle development of Two Face was nice to see worked in to the story too. Fans of the comic stories will appreciate the building of the legend within the big screen offering. Harvey Dent is a character that I overlooked long ago and only began to appreciate in the Dark Knight series of the comic.
Acting was as good as 'Bat Man Begins', story not quite as good but still worth the $7.50, effects were good, plot pace was decent, NOT a small kid's movie (that's a good thing). All in all I'd give it a 7.843 out of 9.999. You could wait to rent/buy it but- what the heck, it looks good real big.
That's my $.016... now I'm broke again.
ooh... and yes that is Eric Roberts and Anthony Michael Hall. Glad to see they still get work. [cheeky]

So precise. And the government isn't going to like you splitting pennies. Defacing money is a felony. [roll] ;D
Anyone actually spring to see it on the REALLY big (IMAX) screen?
The complaints over here in Australia have started, Not about the movie, people love it, Parents are complaining that is to violent for there kids, we had one Woman who took her 8 year old complaining it was not suitable for her child in a national newspaper (And many other parents joining in)
WTF!!! it's M rated here in Australia (Not suitable for children under 15, must accompianied by a Parent or Guardian)
And yet they are advised it is not suitable for children, and yet they still take kids to see it. and then proceed to pregnant dog and moan because they were not told it was not suitable for there kids to watch, how many make the beast with two backsing times do these people have to see the TV, Newspaper adverts, movie posters, movie guides and so forth that are covered in M rating warning labels before they know it's not suitable for the kiddies!!??!?
Some people should not be allowed to breed! :o
I saw it last night, midnight showing. It was really good, meet my expectations (I had high expectations). The only complaint I have is that it is too long.

The gov't splits my pennies every paycheck and they steal the leftovers. But for the record that's my tuppence less taxes. yarrrgh! [bang]
I looked it up on the IMAX finder but there's only one screen in the area showing it and I couldn't get there and still get enough work done today. Maybe I'll take my wife to see it there though. [thumbsup]

I saw it this afternoon. A few parents took their kids out. [roll] Sh*t..if parents thought that was bad?! I remember seeing all those 70's Rated R and X movies at the drive-in when I was a kid. Batman was nothing!! [roll]
I agree..quite a long movie! But..I enjoyed it!! [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

I'll be seeing it today, so based on this info, I'll be looking for you in it. What character do you play?
I thought it was really really well done.
I'll see it again with the ol' lady.
I also am completely rethinking my previous beliefs on wide tires adversely affecting handling (kidding, I know its a movie)
Went and saw it last night in Imax :o worth the money if there's one nearby.
I thought it was great, but agree that the story sort of meandered. Heath Ledger was insanely good- nailed the joker and made the movie in my opinion. The scene with him in the hospital with Dent and afterwards was fantastic. Too bad batman's motorcycle sucks, but at least Bruce Wayne has an MV.
Don't read this if you haven't seen the film, but this is a pretty good review in my opinion: http://io9.com/5026466/the-dark-knight-twice-as-long-as-it-should-be (http://io9.com/5026466/the-dark-knight-twice-as-long-as-it-should-be)
Loved it, although, is it a bad thing that I felt like the character I related to most was the Joker?
I can't wait to see who wants to see the new magic trick I learned. [evil]
FG movie... [thumbsup]
yeap they got the joker character spot on, a great planning genius (which he was in the comic since he was the arch enemy of batman and basically as smart), but completely unpredictable and a complete sociopath.. basically a pretty insane guy but extremely smart how he planned basically everything.
heath ledger's acting was as good as they said it was, if you didn't know it was him you would have no idea it was the same guy from a knights tale.
that maggie gylennhall or whatever, was the most annoying character i think in the movie though.
notice that batman likes italian machines, now since he is a billionaire i'm surprised they put him on a normal mv agusta f4, and not the f4-cc in all black or the ducati d16 (which would have been a more appropriate choice as it being very exclusive to rich folks but the f4cc would have been right up there)
what is with mvagusta being in a lot of movies now? with the irobot, hostel 2 (they use a brutale), now this movie, and didn't they use them in the matrix too along with ducati's?
the magic trick line the joker used was really funny, he did have some really wittty lines in teh movie, admit when he did the magic trick you were laughing when he said "see it disappeared".
i dont' seem to see a lot of ducat's in movies, i haven't seen any monsters in any movies just the 748 is the matrix and that is it.

The theater I went to today there was chidlren 1, 2,3 6 years etc... All scared and one was crying and the stupid trashy parents wouldnt even leave the theater. I am shocked at the parenting of them :-\
Ledger deserves a Oscard Nod for sure.

True. He came a long way from Knight's Tale for this character.
What's up with "a lot" of MV's in movies? Well, there haven't been too many to list. Ducati on the other hand. It seems they're everywhere!
Totally agreed on "why didn't Bruce have an F4cc??" That was the first comment to my wife after we saw movie!! I would expect a billionaire to have that bike! Oh well..it's just a movie. Maybe MV wanted to promote a bike that the public could actually afford instead of a $130K? Who knows?

yeah i notice how mvagusta got not only the bike in the movie but also their "distressed" mv agusta leather jacket in the movie too. that was just total product placement there, there was really no reason for him to use the mv at that point in the movie except to say "hey look i'm cool i'm down with the whole motorcycle thing"

Might be right on that..
Hmm..since the car transformed into the Batbike..maybe the writers wanted to add "Bruce riding the MV" so the audience knew that he had some experience riding motorcycles??
Finally got to see it last night. Awesome.

That is exactly what I thought when I saw it.
Ledger was amazing....Maggie Gyllenhaal, not so much.
Maggie sucked IMO, and did not look the part the way the more attractive (but probably crazy) Katie Holmes did.
aside from the fact that they played characters from 2 different storylines with the same name, ledger blew nicholson out of the freaking water. the only thing i didn't like was when he would lick the corners of his mouth. i can't stand hearing mouth noises and that came close to making me walk out.
i think most of the theater laughed at the magic trick. a few of us giggled at the story of how he got the scars too.
i always liked the darker side of batman anyways, when dark knight came out i was ecstatic (even though i didn't follow it past a few months, something about not having money)
i missed the viewing with all the geeks, and got to see it with the kids. one of them was playing with a stuffed batman doll because it was too scary. [roll] isn't that what babysitters are for? someone behind me fell asleep too. that was hilarious.
and no, there isn't anything after the credits, no need to hang out.

How the hell did she get the role, anyway? Or any work for that matter?
I have yet to see the movie (tonight perhaps), but based on all the footage I have seen she brings nothing to the party. And she looks like a sad sea turtle.

Yeah..wasn't disappointed with the ending of the movie either. She was better than Katie Holmes though..barely. Could've left bot of them out of the movies and wouldn't have changed much.
I did like Maggie from
The Secretary though with James Spader.

I thought she was waaaay better in the role than katie holmes. I don't think either are particularly attractive, but I could believe Maggie was the character she was playing in this movie- definitely not holmes...

I just got back from the movie and have some mixed feelings on it.
1 - I think they could have dragged it out into 2 movies. This one was a bit long
2 - Maggie G.... :-\ not so much.
3 - entertaining, but not worth $21 I should have waited for the dvd

If I recall correctly, folks with a bad coke habit tend to do this. Maybe Ledger thought it would lend a manic edge to the rest of the madness. Or it was unintentional. ;)
Ledger's acting was incredible. I had chills running down my spine a couple of times, and an actor's portrayal will rarely get to me like that. I might just have to go see it again..... [evil]

I went into this flick with such high expectations but I can't remember ever being so disappointed. I am the kind of person that likes to see things succeed and I am always more accepting the critics, but this film gave me nothing. The performances were ok but what was the point of this script? I liked the older batman movies. The old TV series was better. My wife summed up my feelings about this film when she said to me, "I think it was an ok movie, good in some ways, but we have better things to do with out time."
Way over hyped.
Was it good? Yes.
Was it great? No.
Ledger was fine as the Joker, but really playing a psycho isn't the hardest thing. He just has to laugh when he shouldn't, act the opposite you woudl expect someone to and move in a stilted manner and BAM, he's a psycho.
Aaron Eckhart on the other hand, was great as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. I'd rather he be nominated than Ledger.
I much preferred Maggie G over Katie Holmes since a) she can act and b) she's not married to a psycho.
It was fine, but I definitely wouldn't go and see it again.
