Title: Help identifying these rear sets? and how to remove them!
Post by: superkain on February 12, 2016, 01:03:04 PM
Hi, I'm looking to swap these rear sets and I can't seem to figure out how to remove them!  I need to remove that large bolt with the 6 depressions in it, but no idea how to go about it!  Anyone know what kind of rearset this is and how to remove it?! It's an '07 S2R1000

Thank you!!!

Pin wrench. The maker prolly has a special tool.

Similar in design to the steering head nut, no?

You will need a special tool that came with the rear set.

They were on Ducati Performance kit catalog about 10 years ago and sold through Ducati dealership.

They were (still are) produced by AELLA (Cusno motorcycle in Japan) and all the parts and tool are available, in Japan.

(Ducati NA no longer offers any support.)

IF you don’t mind butchering that, you can remove without the tool. (That’d be a shame, those rear set did cost around $1,000 for a set 10 years ago. And one of the nicest rear set ever.)

IF you want to remove the rear set without damaging it, contact AELLA and ask for the tool.

Another option.
If you have a good relationship with your local Ducati dealer (and their service dpt.), you can ask if any one of them  have that special tool in his tool box.
You can buy the stock large head bolt (they will fit) from them, ask them to swap the bolt.
Then, you can remove the bolt with regular socket once you get back home.
(Don't ask if you can borrow that ST.)

As for the rear set for S*R bikes, some products will cause rear suspension binding problem, so be careful.

Old thread, but worth reading.

The ones that have “proper design” are ,

DP (AELLA) (the ones you have now)
Sato racing
Rizoma
Cycle Cat

Don’t buy Gilles tooling, in any case.

Tool is made by Facom ~$90.

I've got one, and it's handy to have, if you need to monkey with that kind of thing often.

Alternatively Park Tools make pin spanner for push bike that will be cheaper, or
you may get lucky measuring the distance between the holes & see if any angle grinder spanner will work!

Fan freaking tastic! Thanks for the assist!  I'll see if I can find an affordable tool for it.

This is a donor bike, and I will be setting it back to stock pegs, and putting these on the other Monster.

Thanks for the info, though. I'll keep an eye out for it in the future.
