Title: Torque Values for Clutch Basket Swap
Post by: klone on February 19, 2016, 12:11:26 PM
I need to replace my clutch basket and plates. I was wondering if anyone had the torque values for some of the bolts I have to remove and replace. I am interested in torque values for the retainer spring bolts, the bolts holding the basket in place, as well as the center nut (32mm). I have a 2009 Monster 1100s and have read the various tutorials and while some have had torque values, they have been for other versions of Monsters, so I just wanted clarification. Anybody have a manual handy, or have the values?

None of the bolts involved in a clutch plate replacement would be different for different models as long as the sizes are the same.

Did you look here?  http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=373.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=373.0)

I don't ever torque the spring retainer bolts. I just tighten them. I've seen too many break even when a torque wrench is used.

That's the thing, it seems like I am getting mixed responses while searching. I was hoping someone with an 1100 had done it recently and would know, or had the manual. Good advice on the spring bolts. I have looked at some installs and they say the same thing.

According to the manual:

3.4 ft-lb, nothing = <snug>

25 ft-lb, blue loctite =  <moderately tight with typical 3/8" breaker bar>

177 ft-lb, red loctite = <really f'n tight, more than most can accomplish with standard hand tools>

I'd be surprised if you've got torque wrenches that can do all 3.

Just did mine using those specs. I used loctite on the basket bolts but grease on the spring bolts. Hate them seizing up. Wrist/finger tight on the little spring bolts if you dont have a little torque wrench.
I rattle gunned the big nut on at 180-200 with loctite, because my rattle gun aint real precise .
Sent you a pm with some manual info that was sent to me.

Our sponsors have a range of clutch parts that could suit. Note that you dont use a 900 pack as the 1100 has more plates.

Motowheels has a bargain on EVR 12 tooth baskets. Cal Cycleworks has the excellent Nichols basket (premium quality and price). Monsterparts has Barnett baskets too. They all sell plates.

Awesome, thanks guys. I picked up plates, basket, springs and bolts already. Now I just need to do it. The snow is melting and I will probably do this tomorrow or later today.  Thanks again.
