Finally got the adjustable ride height rod off my ST2. Bolts were seized, but got unstuck. Unfortunately, at some point one end was run in too far and a few threads got boogered up. Not bad, but enough that the the LH threaded eye-bolt only goes halfway in.
Long story short, I don't have the tools to repair and some repair is not advisable anyway.
So it seems my options are 1) used off of ebay, which will likely be seized and/or already boogered, 2) OEM rod from the dealer for $65, or 3) ~$90 aftermarket from motowheels/corse dynamics who warn against using theirs on an ST2.
I'm leaning towards option #3, since I ride solo without much added weight.
Interested to hear any thoughts or recommendations.
Those routinely make the beast with two backs up, they get assembled dry at the factory, near as I can tell.
Options are pick up a LH tap and fix the thread, or find a moto shop or machine shop that's got a LH tap, and have them do it.
How long is the center part of the link (just the aluminum part)? I've got a few in a box.
Thanks, Speeddog. I took it to my local Duc dealer, but they didn't have a LH tap, so I'll have to look around some more.
In other discussions, folks recommended against messing with the threads as they thought it would affect the integrity of the rod. I've also read that a tap is too aggressive and a thread chasing tool is better, but I haven't found one that costs less than the full assembly. But... this is nowhere near my area of expertise.
End to end with the bolts and locknuts removed the rod measures 21mm. If you have a spare you'd like to sell, I'd be interested.
Thanks again.
