I haven't been on the forum since around 2011 when I sold my M1100. However, Friday I stopped at a dealership and looked at a 2014 M1200S. The bike only has 1500 miles on it, already has replacement levers, mirrors, fender eliminator, frame plugs, fork sliders, clutch and front brake billet reservoirs (all Ducati Corse items) and full Termi system.  I picked it up Saturday. Due to other comitments and possible rain today, I was only able to take it on a short ride but it was enough to fall on love.  My first thing to do is remove the evap canister and that should have the bike where I want it. I know it is debatable if worth it or not but I went ahead and added a 3 year warranty since the factory one runs out in May. Wish me luck ;D

Can anyone tell me about the Ducati battery maintainer, part # 69924601A.  From what I gathered it will simply plug into the diagnostic connector under the seat?

Yep. Seen them around on line for sale.

Had one hooked up using the connector under seat, thought it will look after the battery, was surprised to find battery died after 10 month.


The battery was just over a year old, end up buying a new battery.

Hmmmm, that doesn't sound good, was your charger defective or what?  That is one reason I'm thinking about buying this through the local dealer, that way they should stand behind it.

Unless you want to get down and dirty and 'modify' a regular's battery tender harness to be able to connect both Positive and Negative terminals, negative from under the bike, positive right on the main fuse[basically] I would go with the OEM part; if battery fails, it should either light up permanently Yellow or Red . . .

Carlos, that's why I'm asking about the Ducati maintainer.  I have Schumacher maintainers on my HD, my boat, my tractor and a BMW brand on my GS but I would prefer just using the existing plug on the Duc.

I did a search for the thread you refered to but didn't find it, would you provide a link for me please.

the OEM charger we used in the shop for keeping bikes on juice when performing updates and "longer stays" and in the showroom to keep the newer Monsters with juice due to accessibility issues with battery, only once did we encounter an issue and was because someone dropped the charger

I just supported Jeff at Monsterparts.  I found that lots of the tools I still have from my M1100 won't work (axle sockets, chain adjustment tool, front axle alignment tool) and needed to replace some that I gave away with the 1100 when I sold it (pitbul stand).  I also picked up a Ducati battery maintainer from amazon.  Hopefully that will be all for a while although I was already thinking about solo rearsets (no passengers on this bike).

LOL, 60 year old eyes...

I know a lot of the riders here think the new monsters are an abomination, a55 ugly hoses hanging out the left side.  A look only a blind person could love.  Know what, I don't give a sheet!  My main reason for buying the bike wasn't to stand and look at it parked on the sidestand.  The bike runs great, no coughing, spitting, farting and jerking when ridden around town.  Then when the road opens up the torque is addictive, and the fun doesn't stop when the tach hits 8,000 RPM.   Maybe the full Termi exhaust and tuner makes a real difference, I can't say since I never rode the bike with the stock tune and exhaust.  Sure my old 1100 was lighter and transitions were probably a little easier/quicker but I doubt I'll notice that much difference, my name isn't Carl (as in Fogerty).  The comfort is also a step ahead IMHO but I am an old phart at 60 years.

My only complaint so far (and it is minor) is the stock footpeg brackets but I said the same thing about my 1100.  I cured the issue on the 1100 with rearsets.  Time will tell if I do the same to the new bike.
