Title: Saggy side stand Syndrome and TimeSert/Helicoils
Post by: koko64 on April 09, 2016, 09:06:55 PM
Got an MTS1100 with a saggy side stand. The excessive rear ride height (another story) would not have helped putting extra strain on the side stand support bolts and the case threads. When I saw the lean of the bike I had my suspicions.

Is there enough meat in the case holes to use a TimeSert? Helicoils would not eat in too much but are not very strong for such an application.

I gotta suspend the bike with a Sharp engine stand to remove the ride height adjuster to unfreeze it, so I might as well get it all done at once.

Though Time Serts Keen Serts and Acme Serts are all better repairs than Helicoils they require more material removal and there ain't much there.  Probably the best solution is weld, drill, rethread I suggest you take some good photos and send them to Speeddog for his opinion.
