Anybody know what the Torque Specs are for the eccentric pinch bolts for an 07 Monster S4RS? I have always had this done with regular servicing at the dealer in San Diego, but now I have the bike up in Portland OR while consulting on a project up here and can't find a good time slot to get it into the dealer up here.
I thought this would be pretty straight forward but when I went to loosen the bolts I was unable to. Is this normal - I was using a 3/8 drive ratchet (gear wrench) which has a fairly long handle. Is it typical to have to use a 1/2 inch breaker bar on these things?
Thanks
Dan

You should not have to use a breaker bar. I don't remember the specs, but that's over-tightened...
+/- 33 Nm
If there isn't enough grease, they can be hard to turn.
Would it be ok to put a little penetrating oil on them - there is no corrosion but they are very dry

To loosen them, I guess so.
Yes, penetrating oil is OK.
Don't get it on your brake disk.
The manual says
33 N-m (24 ft-lb.) in 1-2-1 sequence.
(The manual also says apply “Grease Bâ€. Grease B is molybdenum disulfide grease, any CV joint grease will do fine. I use this one. You can find them at NAPA.)

Very brave to put a tube of grease on a white bathmat.
I'd cop a rolling pin to the head at my joint for doing that. ;D
