Title: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: Düb Lüv on June 06, 2016, 07:54:28 PM Other than fast frank racing. Who else machines/drills engine gears. The gears I want done he won't do. Says they're too hard and ruin bits. Looking to have the sprag gear, flywheel flange, and intermediate starter gear. Kaemna does the work, but wanted to see my state side options.
Title: Re: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: Speeddog on June 06, 2016, 09:59:50 PM I'd say try a wire EDM shop.
They can certainly do it. In my experience, they know they're the last option, so it's reflected in the price. Title: Re: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: ducpainter on June 07, 2016, 02:25:57 AM How about Monsterlover? I don't know if he's done those parts, but I know he's done primaries.

Title: Re: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: ducpainter on June 07, 2016, 05:18:29 AM What about Nichols or Fox? What's wrong with one of our sponsors?Title: Re: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: koko64 on June 07, 2016, 05:23:55 AM Nothin', the sponsor was already suggested.
I'm usually first to mention sponsors it's just the poster was after suggestions. Title: Re: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: ducpainter on June 07, 2016, 05:31:14 AM I suppose if Kevin can't accommodate him the other suggestions are useful. [thumbsup] I'm betting he can though.
There are reasons fastfrank said no, however, and machining is what he does. Kevin loves a challenge. ;D Title: Re: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: koko64 on June 07, 2016, 05:34:03 AM Kevin's got bigger, stronger machines ay?
Title: Re: machining/drilling engine gears Post by: ducpainter on June 07, 2016, 05:43:40 AM Kevin's got bigger, stronger machines ay? Kevin buys the best.He makes stuff for all of industry, not just the moto world, and he also has a background in tool sales so he knows what works for what. Not to demean any of the other guys, but they started out as moto guys and have branched out into making parts for the moto industry. Unless they have really good support from suppliers they might not be aware of what's available for tooling for the really tough jobs. They also might be operating under the incorrect assumption that what they really need is too expensive. People know and believe what they get used to...human nature. After hearing the prices of some of the machines Kevin has bought, he's not going to let the cost of tooling get in his way.
