Title: S4RS running troubles - HELP!
Post by: CafeBlack on June 18, 2016, 11:01:49 AM
Hi guys

New to the forum but not to monsters.

Currently running a 2007 S4RS (recently purchased).

Love the bike but having some running issues. Appreciate any help or links to similar questions. Been searching all morning but can't find an answer.

Basically when I start her cold she runs fine. Idle about 1500. However after a 15 minute ride, if I stop (for gas or something) she won't start again. Takes many attempts and will continually cut out until I get going again.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Nick

There's nothing like a full service and diag check after buying a bike.
TB synch, fuel trim, TPS, valves, fuel filter, fuel lines, etc.

If your bike has a DP ecu, the idle trim could be set too rich.  Mine did that and it was explained to me that the ecu goes through a enrichment cycle when first started even if the bike is warm.  If the idle mixture is too rich the bike basically is flooded with fuel until the enrichment cycle is done or you let it cool off and start from a cold engine.

Yeah, bro's Marelli ECU on his M900ie does that too. Annoying on a hot day. Brad Black has mentioned that it takes a minute or three to get through the rpm cycle to settle.

Probably not the same for you since cold start is fine, but warm starts are not good, but my 2007 S4RS is happier during starts now that I am using a Li-Ion battery.  They have a bit more juice than traditional...

Love mine, I have the full DP termignoni setup with the DP ECU
Had the exact same issue a couple years ago brought it in to GP in San Diego for a full service
TB synch, fuel trim, TPS, valves, fuel filter, fuel lines, etc. and problem disappeared
