Title: 2005 S2R good year?
Post by: jvax on July 01, 2016, 03:37:17 AM
Hi folks.

Looking at a black 2005 S2R with 21000km clocked, pretty much bone stock, for about $4000. Good deal?

Any particular issues with the 2005 MY?

Price depends a lot on condition, so hard to tell from here.

The usual plastic tank issues.
Fairly common for the fuel pump wiring to fail.

Front brakes aren't particularly flash, but can be improved with pads.

Fair enough. Thanks anyway.

No issues with the fuel where I live.

Good to know about the fp wiring. Will ask the seller.

Thanks again.

I have one. And love mine.

I think 2005 models have steel tank. (Mine is steel.)

The only time I got stranded on this bike was when regulator/rectifier died.
(Otherwise, it has been 100% reliable.)
Sooner or later this is going to happen, unless R/R is reloacted to the place where it gets air flow, or R/R has been replaced with MOSFET unit.

2004, 2005  S4R(996), especially in bone stock trim, has tendency to do bucking bronco in lower rpm (below 3,000 rpm).
(There’s a way to cure.)

A lot of fun on the twisty back road.

Not so much in the heavily congested city traffic. (Due to the roughness of low rpm range AND heavy, less forgiving dry clutch action.) (Again, there’s a way to cure about the clutch.)

Interesting. I had a 2005 S2R800 and mine was definitely plastic...

Some of the 2005's came with metal tanks and some didn't.  And some of the bikes came with an o2 sensor and some didn't.

If you can find one with a metal tank and no o2 sensor, I would consider buying one.

I've not seen an '05 S2R800 with a steel tank (from the factory, anyway).

'05 S4R had the steel tank.

S2R1000 started in '06, all I've seen have plastic tanks.

I believe that was the 620 Monster, not the S2R.
