Title: Headlight Project Suggestion? Post by: CookieMonster on July 02, 2016, 07:10:51 PM Ok so I am really not a fan of my current headlight and how it just bleh light everywhere. Yes I know it's a bucket headlight and really can't ask for much in that department.
So I decided to have a shot at it and make my own projector headlight. However, I am a little at a loss on how to handle the high beam part. Is that something I will be sacrificing in doing my own? I am about to butcher my old R1 headlight I had laying around and extract the projector out of it to use in my project. See? Any suggestions? Post by: S21FOLGORE on July 03, 2016, 12:38:11 AM Are you doing this because you want to see better at night?
Or, are you doing this for the project’s own sake? If what you want is “more useful head light”, I’d recommend reading Daniel Stern’s article. (Actually I posted this in tutorial section, and there’s a link to Daniel Stern article, the beam shot of BOSCH headlight with relay / harness + high wattage bulb in there. When set up properly, those stock head light isn’t that bad.) http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=69572.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=69572.0) Another option is LED bulb that simply replaces stock H4 bulb. (You will have to cut the bucket, though.) http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=69146.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=69146.0) Unless you are doing this headlight mod for the styling reason, you will get the better result with either relay / harness kit with high(er) wattage bulb or LED replacement bulb. The best option is to add a set of auxiliary lights, if you really want to see better at night. Title: Re: Headlight Project Suggestion? Post by: Frank C on July 03, 2016, 03:48:19 AM I used this with a $50 7" bucket from Ebay...

But the HID has a more consistent light pattern. You can also take a look at the retrofit source for some ideas of an HID with a high beam. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/ (https://www.theretrofitsource.com/) Title: Re: Headlight Project Suggestion? Post by: herm on July 03, 2016, 05:01:01 PM I spent a lot of time trying to get this same issue sorted out.....
Then my commute changed, and I no longer EVER ride at night! Title: Re: Headlight Project Suggestion? Post by: CookieMonster on July 05, 2016, 04:10:01 PM Even though I hardly ride at night like I used to myself I would like that peace of mind knowing that if I need it I have the visibility available. I live in an isolated rural town where to get there you have to drive on a road with not street lights and plenty of twisties. Functionality is priority and looks second, so if I can have both in one then that would be awesome.
I did find a headlight that is both but it comes with a near $500 price tag |
