Title: Crankshaft of M900
Post by: Dmitry on July 12, 2016, 01:30:50 AM
Hi forum! My Ducati Monster 900 is 1997 year. What crankshaft suitable for my Monster? Only 1997 year?
Thanks!

1992 up to 1997 will be a single phase alternator (same as yours).  1998 & later had a 3 phase alternator and therefore a different crankshaft.

Look at the photos please:

The first photo is my crankshaft. This crankshaft suitable for 1993 up to 1997 year inclusively.
And the second photo is crankshaft for 1998 & later.
I am right?

All I can say for sure is there is a difference between 3 phase crankshafts and single phase crankshafts.

your crankshaft part number 14620351A, 1997 monster 900.

looking at the parts fiche http://www.millwaysparesonline.com.au/partFinder/fiche/85726 (http://www.millwaysparesonline.com.au/partFinder/fiche/85726) this looks like your image, with the longer skinny section on the right side.

the 98+ part number 14610511A, your 2nd pic looks to match the parts fiche, with a shorter thicker taper. http://www.millwaysparesonline.com.au/partFinder/fiche/87012 (http://www.millwaysparesonline.com.au/partFinder/fiche/87012)

hope this helps

There are 'long' and 'short' versions of the single phase cranks.

More details here, about halfway down in the 'notes':

Probably to accommodate the early 300W and later 350W single phase alternators?
