There was a fire in my shops building today. On of the transformers out back blew up and though my land lord got it out the roof caught and man did it go.
They were up on the roof but couldn't get ahead of it. They went through a ton of big extinguishers but just couldn't get it.
20 min later the fire guys showed up (all volunteer)
They did a great job and kept the fire from spreading any farther than it did. They were all out there for hours in the mid day sun.
It was 96° and they were in full turnout gear. No idea how you all manage that but thank you for doing it.
Thankfully nobody got hurt and my equipment is all safe and dry. Fire was not near my area.
Oh my. Yeah, fire fighters are special.
Hope things are not to awful bad.

Wow. That's one benefit to living in a metropolitan area. Less then 5 minute response time. Usually less.

I have a cousin who is a Lieutenant in Fairfax Va and he says they don't pay him for what he does, they pay him for what he might have to do.

They do get paid very well here in California. And have great stations full of lazy boys and a big screen TV. The DVR sure helps so they can pause the TV and go out on yet another medical aid call. :)
