Title: Help identifying tank part
Post by: Riaz on July 16, 2016, 04:28:49 PM
I noticed my tank was leaking gas and discovered an apparently broken part on the underside of the tank.  It's not the fuel line (replaced last year) and I'm sure it's basic, but would appreciate help identifying the part, and a good source for replacement.  I don't do my own work typically, but this looks relatively simple.  It's the large nut on the underside of the tank with a wire emerging (but currently not attached to anything).  I tightened it, which stopped the leak, but it's cracked and I'd like to replace it before riding. Thanks.

Having trouble attaching the picture/url, but i'll keep trying.  2000 Monster 750.

Will assume you're talking about this:

and you're also talking about this, (https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRazKZzdAcVQqBZBTIaNfvFPzVy6zBSyLnyclAQtOCEBPR0FdcI)

That's it, thanks.  Apologies for the ignorance, but what does it do?  As the attached wire isn't connected to anything (perhaps it should be?) i wasn't sure of the function.

That's your fuel sensor. If it's not connected, you won't have an accurTe fuel sensor to alert you to a low tank. It's renowned for leaking/failing. Suggest you replace with an aftermarket nut, or new unit.

Will do, thanks.  I was surprised that it was a plastic nut.  The link from the previous poster is to an aluminum replacement nut.  Sounds like a good idea.

Ducati only used the plastic nut for a short while. It didn't work out.

I'm almost positive if you bought a new one it would have a metal nut.

A new sensor is stupid expensive.
