Hi guys,
Here's the VIN Number punched on the right side steering head of my Ducati Monster 600.
I tried to decode it using different web sites offering VIN decode service, but unfortunately non of those could recognise the VIN Number. Can any one please guide me how to decode it?
Also keep in mind that it's pre 2002 model may be manufactured some where between 1993-2000, which I'm not sure about and trying to find out by decoding VIN Number. I have also followed the decoding instructions , but that also didn't help.
VIN Number as written on frame...
ZDM600M*000797*
DGM53709OM
Engine Number
ZDM600A2C*001951*
Will highly appreciate any help, thanks
Frame: Ducati Monster 600 production number Italian Ministry of Transport homologation No. Italian homologation
Engine: Ducati 600 air cooled 2 valve The remaining is the production number.
From the factory manual.
Thank you mate for your quick response and the valueable information.
Are you able to locate manufacturing year by looking at the VIN number or Engine number? I'm not sure in which year it was manufactured.
Thanks.
seems to be a 2000
Not that I know of. If you are in the US look for the emissions sticker. Also, 2001 was the first year for twin discs up front from the factory. Ummm...2000 was the first year for the M 600 in the US I think. Anyway, 1999 and older would have come from the factory no tach and solid front axle. Post photos, that might help us.
Howie, that's a European VIN # . . but it would be nice to have the COMPLETE # in order to help better
A photograph will usually allow us to identify the year of manufacturer. [thumbsup]
Hey Guys,
Unfortunately photos will not help much as the bike was altered by previous owner i.e. it has a fuel tank and seat of Ducati Supersport 600 :(
It was badly neglected, I found it online very cheap and decided to buy and restore it.
So these days it is all ripped apart and I'm working on it on the weekends.
I wanted to post pictures, but haven't got a clue how to do it?

OK, you're in the US?
Will ask for help tp a friend in Bologna . . might take a few days . . . you OK with that?
He's not in the US.
Thank you for your efforts but unfortunately I'm not in US, I am located in Pakistan so :o
It may not be that important to nail down production date. The frames were pretty much the same from '93 - '01 except for the S4. The only difference I can think of is the engine mount bolts. They grew from 10mm to 12mm in '01 or '02, not sure. There was an early 600 engine with the clutch slave built into the side cover and a later 600 with a slave bolted on.
Hope this helps.
Don't know if this helps, but ......

Howie,
It is the one with an early 600 engine with the clutch slave built into the side cover.

Yep [thumbsup]. So a pre 98 model. The spare brake bracket on the fork leg says '94 or early '95 model if the forks are original.
forks are original mate [thumbsup]
it's gonna take a lot of time and patience to come to a Ducati Sexy Baby shape lol
I know of a Monster tank in Oz for sale. It's being repainted. I've got a mate that might want that SS tank, I'll ask him.
Sure you can ask him. Unfortunately the SS tank is not in good shape from the bottom, it leaks and was repaired very unprofessionally using epoxy.
Quite a project! It will be nice to see an old Monster reborn
Koko64 has the year narrowed down.
Indeed it is a long project. Yea Koko narrowed down the year.
I'm sure after few months it'll return to it's original grace. Still not sure about the colour scheme. I was thinking about White, red and black. Something catchy with aggressive looks.
White Fuel Tank & Front Mud-Guard.
Red Frame, Break callipers and rare shock spring.
Black Engine, rare Mud-Guard, Swing Arm and Rims/Tyres.
And red circular border on rims.
Any Ideas are welcome.
Thanks.
