2009 Monster 1100, 14,000-ish miles.
I just started having this issue. After my last fill up, I reset the tripmeter and now the display continually cycles between the odometer - tripmeter - clock. Also the tripmeter keeps resetting back to 0.0. It doesn't seem to effect anything else, just annoying.
Did you wash the bike also? Could be water in the switch . ..
No water recently.
I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, but my bike is pretty dirty most of the time. I live in the country and have ~1.5mi of washboard gravel road from the house to the pavement. Wash jobs only keep her clean for a couple trips up and down the dirt road. :'(
Loose connection in the gauges due to the constant bumpy road?
First try loosening the switch and re tightening just enough. Hey, free is good. What happens when you disconnect the switch? No more cycling? The switch is the problem.
Given the road, might be worth checking the plug for that harness if you can locate it. Cycling through those functions sounds like a loose connection.
