Title: Fork Swap on S2R 800
Post by: flanman on August 09, 2016, 06:20:31 AM
I know this has been discussed a lot before, I was searching through past posts yesterday and couldnt really come to a conclusive answer.

What is the easiest, and least expensive fork swap option for a S2R 800 (2007)?

My fork seals need to be replaced and I was quoted $600+ by my dealer, would appreciate any input of anyone who has swapped out their forks. Is there a particular donor that requires minimal work to make everything fit?

Would it be much more expensive than having the dealer just replace the fork seals?

Thanks in advance!

basically any Monster from 2002 forwards, ST models[although, IIRC] these are a bit longer and SS models . . .

S2R 1000, S4R, ST4 and probably more are direct bolt on. As already written. ST4 are same length

All of them good candidates for later upgrades  8)

.... and usually less than 600.

Thanks guys! So any of the above will work with my stock tripples, brakes, etc without having to bore/shim/spacer?

just make sure you're getting 25mm axle forks

Where are you located?

Yes  [thumbsup]

EDIT: if your current axle doesn't have compression adjustment holes through it - you might need to drill holes or buy one with holes. Or buy a fork including axle.

You might want to contact this guy   http://clubhousemotorsports.com/index.html (http://clubhousemotorsports.com/index.html)   and have him freshen up a set of used forks for you properly set up with a linear spring for your weight and valved for your riding style.

$600 is absurd for new seals. How much if you bring the legs in without the bike??

Yeah I thought that sounded pretty high, I was expecting half that...

if it is a dealer is about right ... parts go for around $350(overhaul kit + oil) and the rest labour . . .about 2 to 3 hours(can't remember) . . . if independent shop . . .  TOO much . . .

I am looking into some reworked forks for sale in the classifieds. Anyone know if a 2001 Monster 900S tripple will fit onto an S2R? From what ive read I am thinking no? Any feedback is appreciated!
