I consider myself reasonably responsible and I also like to think that I am mentally capable to play this game we call life. However, tonight I really have to re-evaluate these thoughts. After work I met some friends for dinner and such and then headed home from Valley Ranch up 190 and as I am making that nice long left hander from 190 to 35 N. I notice my fuel light is on. No worries, plenty left to get me to the gas station. Make it to the Shell station on 121, take off my back pack, sit it on the ground next to the pump, fill up = $12 and Im back on my way. Get home, and I am locked out of the house... no biggie, keys are in my back pack.... which is still at the gas station!!!! :o wait, it gets worse. So from the Colony to Little Elm where I live, is easily 20minutes. I get back to the gas station in about 10min! Sure enough, back pack is gone. Go inside, no one has brought it in to leave for me. This about the point where my stomach gets all queezy and I feel kind of light headed. Called the police to report the loss and just so everyone can share in the pain a little, here are the contents of said back pack.
1.) The one and only key to the G35 (Best part is its one of those fancy electronic-computer chip-dealer only-$175 keys)
2.) House keys
3.) Keys to Tahoe
4.) My cell phone
5.) My company Blackberry (dont really miss that one)
6.) My work ID
7.) Oakley Straights (Ducati edition)
8.) 16GB iTouch, ya thats about $300
9.) BRAND NEW Dainese Mugello track shirt.
10.) HK USP .40C (For those that dont know, that is about $750)
11.) BRAND NEW Dell XPS 1330 (About $2k)
12.) All the data on the latptop that I cant even begin to put a price on.
And various other odd and end stuff, mouse, USB drives, etc etc... I have been calling my cell phone like mad hoping someone will answer and do the right thing but I know I am kidding myself. I have been really looking forward to this weekend and this is how its starts. I have no one to blame but myself so let the wallowing in own self pity begin :'( [bang]
The police officer was very nice and sympathetic but I am a total wreck I know its all stuff that can be replaced (well most anyway) but this is just not like me to walk off and leave my stuff like that. I am also very concerned about the people who have my stuff hurting themselves or someone else with the USP :-\ ... which if did happen you know there is some liberal A$$ F'n lawyer out there that would go after me and attempt to make me responsible.
Well I think I am going to go curl up all fetal like on the bathroom floor. I still plan to make ***'s tomorrow and Ill try not to be to bummed out :-\
Hey Kev, sorry to hear about your loss. I hope the information on your computer or other electronic peripherals don't amount to enough personal information that could be used to commit ID theft using your info. I thought my son losing my credit card last week was a bummer, your loss could potentially be very big not counting the cost to replace the items. Have a lock smith rekey the lock on your house maybe even the Tahoe.
I'd be good to see you tomorrow but you may be busy dealing with this. We'll understand. Let us know how things are going.
cdc
(aka ***)
Wow.
make the beast with two backs.
:o
Damn, sorry to hear about the pack. I'm with *** on this one, get your house re-keyed and close any loop holes to access to your info/property ASAP. The USP, yeesh, dunno on that one.
Have been up all night changing passwords :(
Thanks guys,
Sorry to hear it man. Hang in there.

Thanks...
just a side note, the new key will cost me $190 not $175 and the car will have to be towed to the dealer. Luckily road side assistance is doing the towing and that wont cost me anything.
Waiting for the tow truck now.
dude, that really sucks...i'm sorry to hear that shit. i hate that sick feeling when you realize what happened. you would like to believe in the good of your fellow man and all that...had it been me that found it i would have tried to get it back to you. you would think other people would do the same.
hope you're able to get your house and cars secured quickly and get all those passwords changed etc. would the person that has the bag be able to track where you live based on the cellphone and/or laptop? i mean, the chances that whomever took the bag (which you forgot to list as stolen...wasn't ducati was it? :-[ ) was a hardened thug are pretty slim. i mean, that area isn't exactly running over with criminals... but i guess when the opportunity presents itself, someone jumped at it. maybe if nothing else you can take a little bit of comfort in knowing that the cops will undoubtedly (you would think, anyway) put a priority on finding your stuff, since the USP was involved.
if you get your stuff back, we'll have to go to the range! i'll even clean it afterwards [thumbsup] i'll keep my fingers crossed for you man.

Thanks for the good words bro. I was thinking the same thing all the way back to the station. Thinking that there are pleny of good people out there and undoubtly my stuff would have been turned into the station attendant... but alas that was not the case. I only have to doors that will need to have the locks changes, which I can do myself. Dont think that my cell phone would leed them to my house but there was probably some mail in there with my address on it. Laptop was locked and has a finger scanner on it, my guess there is they would just format the drive and reinstall... which I kind of hope is what they do so as alll of my data would be erased (crosses fingers). The back pack was Oakley. No great loss but it was about $75 and the real kick on the USP was it was purchased new and the date code is 'AB' which is for 2001 ... it was a gift from my wife :(
Live and learn I guess.

:( Kevin - Thanks for sharing your tale of woe ! I have a bad habit of putting my tankbag with all my stuff on top of the gas pump when I fill up and that ends TODAY !!! That is one of the things I like most about all of y'all - that you are real about what goes good & bad ! I, for one, would rather not hit every one of life's potholes - so when people point them out I am grateful and I pay attention.
??? This is an unhappy suggestion but if you put a sign up at the gas station and offer a "No Questions" reward equal to your deductible - say $500 and carefully point out that most of the items have serial #'s that you will be listing as stolen - the you might be able to multiply worry about getting caught X greed and come up with a satisfactory end to this !!

Kevin,
Great to see you yesterday at cdc's. That's a long trek for you to make, you're a damn good sport to travel so far to hang with the mob in Cory's honor! [thumbsup] Especially after all the s#@t you just went through with the backpack. My heart sunk when the guys told me about it before you got there. I can't imagine how s#@tty you feel... I'm sure you don't really need me to be reminding right now either! :P You have my sympathy and mutual concerns over the HK ending up in bad hands. In my neighborhood we have had a rash of car burglaries, they want the garage door openers and whatever else they can snatch. I pulled my openers and Glocks out of my cars when they are parked outside for that very reason. Hope good luck befalls you and your HK ends up in some pawn shop or recovered by police in a car search. [thumbsup] Here's hoping.

Hey, if it will make you feel any better...I've now pulled not 1, but 2 bone headed moves this year. One month after Christmas...a little fast entering I-35 off of Oak Lawn and lost control on the on ramp and into a tree. Totalled my BMW...after adding thousands in mods to the darn thing. The 2nd bone headed move was dumping my Harley on my left leg in mid-June...my knee, leg and ankle are still not 100% and the gouge in my shin is still healing.
Just have to look at the positive side of things...although not easy at times.
It is too bad that no one has returned your stuff to you.

No cell phone....ahhhh, my dream come true! I keep leaving mine in my car in plain sight but since it's not new and cool no one will take it. I may have to take out a "hit" on it... where did I put Fat Tony's number?? [laugh]

The toilet is your friend!
Looks like my home owners insurance is going to cover my loss minus my deductible, which means I should be able to replace the laptop but nothing else. Its better than nothing at all so Im totally thrilled about not having to pay for a laptop I no longer have. :)
Hey Kevin.... any luck with your pack. That totally sucks. I hope you get your stuff back. I'd be more worried about your firearm in a crazy individual's hands. That idea of posting something up might be helpful. Maybe the person that took your pack took it to the police station. I'd at least check and see.

i mean, you don't want too much of a "coincidence" factor to scare him or anything... have you asked for some decent pics of the glasses that would show enough detail to at least verify that they're the same glasses/model?
