It's looking pretty evenly matched, and that's promising for Sunday!

MM is indeed astonishing.  [bow_down]

MM just plain stole pole position at the last minute.

I'm pretty sure Rossi's a bit ticked off!

Oh, yeah.

It's race day morning and it's raining in Brno, Moto3 warmup in progress.

More than 50% chance of rain until 2pm, where it drops to 37%.

I'm sure JLo is properly chuffed at that.  [laugh]

'Unfortunately we did not also put the hard on the front because this morning I had not a very good feeling with the soft, so I was not brave enough like Cal' - Valentino Rossi.

It's not easy being a Ducati fan.  It'll even be harder next year with J-Lo on the bike.   He acted like such a baby.

Felt bad for Dovi,  that tire delaminated too early.   Iannone rode his anyway,  who needs the center of the tire?

Ianonne's front was crazy at the end... impressive that he rode through that and finished.

Glad Cal got the win, funny guy but hard to root for when he crashes that much.

MM is just looking too smart this year to beat though... every race is impressive from a riding and racing perspective. I'm still rooting for Rossi in my heart but barring a couple of successive DNF's... I cant see how MM would lose it this year.

Well, what do they expect, they put those deep grooves everywhere, of course those pieces will fall out.

Looking at those pics makes me realize how well Rossi preserved that soft front.

Or was it easier to use less of the front because of the hard rear?

Looking at those pics makes me realize how well Rossi preserved that soft front.

Or was it easier to use less of the front because of the hard rear?

Part of the issue on the factory Ducatis are the massive winglets - they're intended to generate a lot of downforce on the front to minimize wheelies on acceleration, but the price is a lot of additional pressure on the front tire all the time. It's little surprise that both Iannone & Dovi munched a soft front rain tire that wasn't really suited to the weird drying conditions that actually occurred in the race. Dovi did also mention that his efforts to preserve the soft rear tire did add some punishment to the front, so you may be on to something in Rossi's case.

The other issue seems to be the luck of the draw with a tire Michelin hasn't completely figured out yet - Rossi's held together, Lorenzo's didn't, and it seems to have been a bit hit or miss throughout the ranks of the riders who chose the soft front.

David Emmet has his usual great rundown on the whole thing, especially how the soft front tire was as big a gamble on the weather as the hard that Cal chose - but it turned out to be a losing bet.
