Title: Analogue Instruments Post by: kh.rider on August 23, 2016, 04:57:05 PM Maybe it's because I'm an old guy, but I prefer analogue instruments - dials and gauges rather than digital display.
My Question - is it possible to replace the 696 digital dashboard with analogue instruments? Is there a standard kit? Title: Re: Analogue Instruments Post by: stopintime on August 23, 2016, 05:02:13 PM It's not because of age - they're better ;)
There are quite a few functions built into the instrument cluster - very different selection of such between 696 and older clusters. Certainly not a kit, but.... Title: Re: Analogue Instruments Post by: Charlie98 on August 23, 2016, 06:37:00 PM I actually posed that very same question about my 796, and did a fair amount of research into it. I finally decided that it was more trouble than it's worth. There are a number of issues including different ECU's between the digital (Siemens) and analog (Marelli) panels, things like speedo pickup, emission controls, and such.

I had a sneaking suspicion that that would be the answer. :-\ It's a bummer really - i kinda like watching the needle arcing around the dial as i wind on the rpm's. Maybe i should be watching the road instead. ;) C'est la vie. Thank you. Title: Re: Analogue Instruments Post by: Charlie98 on August 31, 2016, 05:07:19 AM haha - thanks Charlie. My issue with the 796 is the location of the speed display... buried in the lower right corner. I can't see it in sunlight, and sometimes I have a hard time figuring out if I'm going 55, 65, or 85.... which makes a difference sometimes. ;) |
