hey guys
time to change tires...back wheel off in 5 mins.... front wheel...no such luck...
read my haynes manual...read this very thorough thread....http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=10276.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=10276.0)
but no joy.
it seems my monster doesnt have an axle nut ( is that correct ?? ). so when i undo the pinch bolts the axle will spin independently of the wheel. Now comes the trouble. When I try and drive the axle out from the left side of the bike , the axle moves an inch or so, then stops. I could see what looks like a spacer on the axle on the left side and this seems to not want to separate from the axle. Is this correct or am I just seeing it wrong ? I tried using a large socket and a rubber mallet on the left side but no luck.
any ideas?
thanks
Mike
You are reading directions for a later model hollow axle. On your bike (assuming you have not upgraded to later model hollow axle forks) leave the pinch bolts on the left fork tight. Loosen the pinch bolts on the right fork. Then unscrew the axle with the appropriate allen.
You might want to send us a photo of your axle before going further.
hey Howie
Thanks...i watched a youtube video just now of a guy doing a removal on an ss ...that`s what he did!
will try that tomorrow and if no joy, photos on the way.
cheers
Mike
The allen is a 14mm
worked a treat...off in 5 mins!
am also changing the front wheel and by god, the brake disc is held on with something from Thor`s home planet....i think it`s going to take a lot of penetrating oil to get those allen bolts to move!
Big thanks, again
Mike
Au used a breaker bar on my hex key socket to undo the disc bolts. They should be loctite'd on or something. Can also help cracking them loose whilst the wheel is still fitted, just lock the front brake on to help hold the wheel.
Upgrading to twin disc? for some resin I thought I saw 750! It's just 1997 :)
