Title: Stumbled across some old tech
Post by: Speeddog on September 30, 2016, 07:43:04 AM
An old article from Performance Bikes magazine:
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2015/november/mcn-plus-classic-john-robinson---great-powertrain-robbery/ (http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2015/november/mcn-plus-classic-john-robinson---great-powertrain-robbery/)

Hadn't seen any of his stuff before, interesting reading.

Great. Thanks heaps. Will read and re-read this.
Relates to why desmodromics are worthwhile re mechanical and pumping losses. Raises the question as to whether valve operation is a mechanical or pumping loss since it is part of how air is moved through the motor. Pumping loss from the crank alone without pistons was an eye opener! Carb design relating to pumping losses and how much I hate CV carbs! Dyno measurements. Etc etc

I could drink alot of beer discussing this. Awesome.

That's a great read [thumbsup]

I had an idea but no where near an accurate one.  Damn.

Great read! I'd be interested to know the readings on some of the modern sportbikes, as a lot of progress has been made since this was printed.
