Title: Strange "whirring" sound from front brakes
Post by: shub1971 on October 05, 2016, 09:11:49 AM
Hi

So my '12 M1100EVO has around 3,800 miles on it and just in the last few days it has developed a weird sound/feel to the front brakes. This occurs under heavy braking right before the bike comes to a stop. No issues at speed. It sounds and feels a little bit like when the rubber on bicycle brakes is old and you brake hard. The best description I can give is a whirring sound with some vibration. The brakes work fine otherwise - stops on a dime.

Any ideas what this could be? At first I thought it could be the pads, but 3,800 miles seems like a premature death to me  [bang]

Drilled rotors?  Likely the holes passing the edge of the pads.  My M750 does it and it's got the single drilled iron rotor.

Yes, it has drilled rotors. Thanks! So, normal, not a safety concern?

Doubtful that it is a safety concern. My Ducati Superbikes both did that at times. My 1290 SDR does it now & then too, even after replacing the front discs. I'm going to flush the brake fluid and see if that helps. A bit annoying but not a performance problem.
