So my '12 M1100EVO has around 3,800 miles on it and just in the last few days it has developed a weird sound/feel to the front brakes. This occurs under heavy braking right before the bike comes to a stop. No issues at speed. It sounds and feels a little bit like when the rubber on bicycle brakes is old and you brake hard. The best description I can give is a whirring sound with some vibration. The brakes work fine otherwise - stops on a dime. Any ideas what this could be? At first I thought it could be the pads, but 3,800 miles seems like a premature death to me [bang] Title: Re: Strange "whirring" sound from front brakes Post by: the_Journeyman on October 05, 2016, 09:23:39 AM Drilled rotors? Likely the holes passing the edge of the pads. My M750 does it and it's got the single drilled iron rotor.

Doubtful that it is a safety concern. My Ducati Superbikes both did that at times. My 1290 SDR does it now & then too, even after replacing the front discs. I'm going to flush the brake fluid and see if that helps. A bit annoying but not a performance problem.
