Title: HELP! Clutch pack swapped -- NO gear engages: Failure to launch
Post by: JeremyConnors on October 09, 2016, 06:14:56 PM
m695
APTC
Barnett pack/springs

Installed carefully, as per manual/CA CycleWorks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFv6YIK3WyY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFv6YIK3WyY). Even bought a small wrench to ensure proper torque specs.

Upon testing, bike does not go into gear, or rather, drive so-to-speak, i.e., I hear the gear change clunks, past neutral and yet cannot get power to the wheel -- it's all neutral behavior no matter what gear choose... I uninstalled the Barnett and put the stock unit back -- on account of that working fine last night -- same issue.

What might I have done or undone to cause this? I'm sure I'm missing something...  ??? Thanks for any helps!

I'm just revving here, and going no where fast.  :-[

Did you measure the old pack to make sure that you have enough thickness?

Did you soak the fiber discs in oil before installation?

Yes and Yes :)
Presoaked all night and both stock and Barnett packs measure the same thickness.

Then it should work. ;D

Check to make sure you have the pressure plate indexed correctly. IIRC it's possible to install the plate so the teeth on the pressure plate don't engage the teeth on the hub which holds the pressure plate off the stack. It's the only possibility. There are marks.

Yes this can happen if you dont push the pressure plate fully home before fitting the springs. You need to push against hydraulic pressure and get the teeth all engaged between the drum and pressure plate.

Ok, that's 2 of you, so there's likely something to this. I *thought* I had it all seated. Granted, it's a very tight fit

Got it re situated. The plates all line up w/ the grooves and do go flush when I apply pressure. HOWEVER, the pressure plate leaves a gap i/b/t the drum even w/ all the pressure I can apply by hand. Therefore, even w/ the pressure from these springs, it'll never sit flush as I've got it... Is this kosher? Or is the whole package intend to sit flush w/ pressure?

(Can't see how the pressure plate can seat any deeper now that I've got the notices lind up and teeth all straightened accordingly...)

Can you post a pic of this gap between pressure plate and drum?

I suspect you've got a steel that's trapped between the moving parts.

Ok, you were all right, lol. But seriously, it took me 4 full install/removals to see what you all meant. Thanks for the specifics, I'll see about posting WTF I was talking about soon as she's all done.

PS my last test ride went beautifully [beer]
