You understand correctly.

Maybe someone else that's done the same can help.

Was it the oil ring?

It's usually the oil ring that hurts people.

Someone has a ring somewhere.

bunch of stuff you don't need, but it will solve your issue for short money.

I have a used piston with rings, but I wouldn't sell it for that price.

Did you notice the ebay add listed the parts as "900SS" parts?

Clearly they are from a monster, buyer beware when buying from Ebay.
What piston and cylinder do you have A , B or C spec. you will see it stamped on the piston top and cylinder. If you get a replacement ring be sure to measure ring end gap because the cylinder spec refers to different sizes.

What year 900?
What piston (A, B or C)?
part number on bottom of piston?

yes, beware of ebay, and I have a 900ss motor, that besides a few minor differences, looks just like an m900 and aslo my 11k motor pistons look just like those "low Mileage" ones, lol.
Feracci has a drop in high comp set of pistons, may just go for it. I'm gonna call them today to chat with them about it
thanks ducpainter

I know about the A,B,,,C?

Other than that, how much difference is there in 900 pistons between year and models?

Ha...I knew they changed in ~98 when they went to the W heads, but I didn't know there were larger intakes than the V heads.

V = 43mm, W = 41mm.
Dont know if they used the same piston and valve reliefs. Anything bigger than 43mm aint stock.

Perhaps there's some 900's that came with forged pistons, some with cast.

My 750 has forged slugs, as it clanks rather alarmingly when it's cold.

I guess that was the occasional cold start.  The noise would disappear quicker than I could chase it.  80+K and still clanking away with the new owner.

Yes there are cast and forged oem pistons.
If you look at the underside of the piston crown you should see a part number, what is it?

first off, no noise. no issues with the pistons. I am doing a custom build and was disassembling the bike. pulled pistons to clean carbon deposits and broke one of the rings taking them off.

I have a 01 900ssie that the rod bolts backed out on. I have the pistons out. do you want the rings off of those pistons? Only 5000 miles on the engine. I will be back home in a week. I am currently helping my parents, long story, and my daughter passed away. If you would like we can work it out.
