Title: New Owner questions Temp gauge
Post by: revhrd on October 22, 2016, 06:23:08 AM
I acquired an '03 ducati monster about a year ago. A seemingly ignorant question is about the gauge display for the temp of the engine. According to the manual it should read HI or LO but all I see regardless of riding time is --- next to the little termometer icon on the right cluster. Is that normal?

Thanks in advance fellas

... only if the wire has fallen off  [cheeky]

It attaches on the right side of the engine, just under the oil sight glass

I traced it when I looked at the service manual, even disconnected and cleaned out both ends with electrical parts cleaner. No dice, though... If it's meant to say something then it needs to be replaced. I just wanted to make sure before I try to get one.

It shows Lo/actual/Hi temperature (owner's manual will tell you excactly).

When my connector is loose it shows the same ---- as yours, but it could be the sensor too, I suppose....

Take the connector off the sensor and attach it to something that has some resistance, such as a test light that uses an incandescent bulb, then to ground.  With the key on if you see either a number, high or low displayed it is the sensor.  If you still see dashes it is a wiring or gauge problem.
