My front coffin style master cylinder (95 M900) froze solid during an attempt to bleed my lines. Upon further inspection, I found metal flakes in the resevoir and internals that caused this.
I found a rebuild kit on eBay. Fortunately, I took pictures of the disassembly because the instructions that came with the rebuild kit are of little use (at least to me). Even with pics, I am having trouble with the rebuild.
So before I continue with that....
Does anyone know of any of the later model master cylinders that would be compatible to my existing 2 caliper set up?
The small-pivot Goldlines are nice, 15mm or 16mm bore.
Brake line attachment location is the same.
There's variations in the brakelight switch styles, so likely you'll need to get the matching switch.
Some folks like the radials better, but be aware that the line attachment location is different, so you'll need new line(s).
In addition to what Speeddog said re radials, you need to make sure you size it correctly or you'll have very little 'feel' from the brakes.
The Goldline is the simplest option.
Annnnnd some of us like the old coffins and would put either another used or better yet new one on. Remote reservoir masters would make the brake have a better feel and possibly more power but are also often the first part ripped off in a crash.
The masters are reliable and cheap enough it is not worth rebuilding, buy new or used (good condition) and you are better off most of the time. Ii cannot think of the last bad coffin brake master cylinder I have seen.
I ran 999 masters on my old M900 with braided lines. Excellent power and feel.
Diavel master cylinders, radial with an integrated metal reservoir and mirror mount. Best of both worlds.
