Title: Midpipe exhaust gasket for full Zard System on S2R1000?
Post by: superkain on November 26, 2016, 12:26:59 PM
I've got some popping in the exhaust, and a definite air leak at this juncture going to the right side can.  It doesn't slip on all the way, and thinking that there must be a gasket that can fit in there.

This is a 2008 S2R1000, dual sided full Zard system.

Yes, I made sure that the exhaust header/maniford gaskets are done properly, it is definitely coming from this juncture.

Hey superkain,

I have a tiny leak in the same junction between my Marving header and the stock midpipe. It just isn't a perfect fit. Now that I have it apart for maintenance, I think I am going to try some of this

https://www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/ultra-series-gasket-makers/permatex-ultra-copper-maximum-temperature-rtv-silicone-gasket-maker/

It says it is good up to 700F intermittent. I wish I would have hit my pipes with an IR thermometer before I took my bike apart, to see how hot they normally run. I also wonder if this will make it a complete pregnant dog to remove the midpipes later on, since I seem to pull my rear wheel off pretty often.

You can see the black line in the pic where exhaust gas has been escaping.

I had this issue with a poorly built quat D exbox. Permatex copper is good stuff but if the gap is big, the exhaust pulses will push that stuff out in about a week.

Also look in to wurth exhaust assembly paste. Its got a higher temperature rating and the fact that it sets with high temperature

Thank you!  I'll start with the copper, as it's less expensive. If that fails, I go to Wurth!

Muchas Gracias!

Permatex Copper blew out in about a week, just as you said.

Just ordered some Wurth sealant, and going to give it a try.

I hear harley davidson pipes have tapered exhaust gaskets, and i'm thinking i might even be able to modify one to fit if it comes to it!
