Title: Throttle "push" cable removal trick?
Post by: Truckedup on November 28, 2016, 08:58:33 AM
I've been doing tuning on my 95 900M carburetors. The carbs have been off a few times for jetting and float level adjustments..The bike has K&N individual filters so removing the carbs is very easy...But when putting them back on.... that return cable is difficult to thread onto "pulley". The pull cable is easy by comparison...Any tricks to make is easier ?

Set the cable adjusters at the throttle grip to give you as much slack as possible.

Rotate the throttle grip to full open, to give you all the slack on the 'push' cable.

Then install the push cable on the carbs, with the adjuster barrel installed at the loosest setting.

Install the pull cable.

Adjust cable slack.

Ok...let me also say the cable barrel end flops around making it difficult to get it into hole...and then thread the cable around the pulley without the barrel coming loose...I screw around for 15 minutes using a hooked length of wire to get the barrel into the hole..My wife will help with her nimble knitting fingers but it's still frustrating...

Try using a pair of needle nose pliers or some forceps to get the barrel to go where you want.

+1. I cant locate the cable nipple without pointy nosed pliers. I also now remove the cable from the throttle barrel and not the carbs to save time.
I have now changed to Mikuni single cable quick turn throttles with these carbs. It gives better throttle feel and response and tidies up the cables. The stock throttle barrel has a long travel so it's an improvement. The opposite of what you would do with a responsive flat slide carb for street applications.
