Title: 2000 M900 Bar mounts
Post by: STFU on January 07, 2017, 06:51:36 PM
Hi guys, I've been searching this forum and several sights for a set of fat bar mounts for my M900. Id like to remove these clip on mounts and just put some simple bar risers on that mount 1 1/8" bars but cant seem to find anything for older monsters. Anyone have any leads? Anyone interested in trading a set for these Rizoma clip ons?

The older Monsters used 7/8" bars. I don't think there's anything out there for fat bars.

The problem is the hole spacing on pre ~2002. I fear the narrow spacing will prevent a "fat bar".

Stock bar mounts are available and then you can use any of many 22mm bar types.

Thanks for the quick replies.  next question, is it possible to swap the triples to a newer set up and still use my existing forks? Not they are anything special from what I can tell, but dont want to start the whole snowball effect and end up with a new wheel, brakes, forks and triples just so I can put on some decent bars.

Several different outfits make fat bar adapters:

I aware of the adapters, but I guess I will need to buy a set of the stock 7/8" bases to get started with. I was hoping to find an aftermarket solution that eliminated the stock base pieces.

Not much luck so far. Again, I have searched a little on here but haven't found a definitive answer if a newer model upper triple clamp will fit an older bike. from what I found all monsters use a 25mm offset, and the the later models have the same size forks so one would think they would swap on. maybe have to sleeve the center hole if they have a bigger center tube on the newer bikes?

The top triple changed in '02, '01 on the S4, along with the advent of the ST frame. No idea what the 3rd and later generations used.

I'm not positive of all the differences, but I'm pretty sure the stem is a different diameter requiring different bearings, and I know it uses a different style top nut/adjustment system.

If the spacing on those Speeddog linked to isn't correct, you could google the words and see what pops up....

The Rizoma clip ons were expensive, so if you're lucky you find someone who has the opposite plan  8)  Clip ons for old Monsters is problematic because the top triple corners causes clearance issues -> Rizoma solution.

Gen1 Monsters '94-'01, excluding '01 S4, have 25mm offset triples, bar risers for 7/8" bars, and a small stem.

Gen2 and Gen3 Monsters, '01 S4 and all '02 -'08, excluding M696, have 30mm offset, and the large stem.
3 flavors; ones with integral risers to fit 7/8" bars, ones with bolt-on risers to fit 1 1/8" bars, and 'S4' that have bolt-on 'clipons'.

IMA made triples to fit Gen1 Monsters that had a wide bolt spacing and risers to fit 1 1/8" bars.

Thank you, that clears it up for me and it seems my options are surprisingly limited. Im prob not buying hundreds of dollars worth of new triples for this project, as nice as they are. Looks like im in the market for some stock risers and clamps.
